Rumor says that the strange girl from capture the flag--KJ--finally woken up after dinner.

Believe me, I'd been lurking in the shadows long enough to know that this girl was different, and incredibly dangerous. The campfire changed everything.

(Y/n) and a couple of her siblings had invited me to sit next to them at campfire, and though they couldn't see, I was blushing faintly. I was praying to the gods, preferably Aphrodite, that I wouldn't have to sit next to (Y/n). So obviously, my prayers were not answered.

Can you guess where I sat?

The songs were cheesy, as usual. The regular one about grandma getting ready for battle (a rather scary rendition of "Grandma got Ran Over by a Reindeer."), and some modern ones, like that annoying "Campfire Song Song" from that Spongebob movie. I caught myself muttering the lyrics as Will Solace glared over at me from where Apollo campers sat under a golden banner with a lyre painted on it, pointedly stating that I should at least have a little fun. 'Doctors orders,' apparently.

The campfire rose and changed colors, reflecting the campers moods, about ten feet high and bright gold, and I could feel myself getting a suntan, even while I was wearing my aviators jacket in pitch dark.

I caught myself glancing over at (Y/n) once or twice, but she always glanced over to look at me, so I had to turn my head away before she would notice me staring.

Her (E/c) eyes were bright, happy. She was genuinely enjoying herself.

But the happy mood was ruined when a glowing ghostly purple-black smoke drifted around the fire, dousing the light, dimming it to the color of lint. It curled around in the air for a second, then floated over to where KJ was sitting next to Chiron and Mr. D. It wrapped around her, glowing a bright purple, and for a moment I could only see her silhouette, her hair floating around her face.

Then, the light faded, and the smoke formed a symbol above her head. A blurry shape of something that looked like a cross between a star and a twisted butterfly. The hand of Eris.

KJ glanced around the room, an expression of complete terror written over her features, like she couldn't believe what just happened. "What...?!"

"I believe we need to start construction on Cabin 16," Chiron called formally over the hushed murmurs of awe from the campers. "Hail, Kathrine-Jean, Daughter of Eris, lady of discord, voice to the darkness."
