From the first moment we do something parents tell us to be ourselves, that we are always enough. For the first time, I felt like I wasn't enough and that was when I met you and her.She was as bright as the morning sun, the pretty clouds that wrap around the sunsets that you love, the fries at the bottom of the bag you reach for because they hit just right, the first flowers that bloom in May, and the rain after a drought. That is how you describe her. She is sweet and pretty and everything I'm not, but god I wish I was.
To you she is everything I'm not, she's the reason you wake up, you get out of bed, you open your eyes, and she's all you look forward to. She's the main character in every movie, the main singer in the band, she's everything I want to be.
But that's not me...
I am not the main character, I am the best friend who makes the story move along. I'm not the morning sun, I'm the moon that calms you at night who washes away your worries with the moving tides. I'm not the clouds that wrap around sunset, I am the falling stars at night the ones so close you can touch but are just out of reach. I am the soggy fry at the bottom of the carton yet everyone craves it. I am not the summer flowers, I am the small winter ones that no one ever sees. I may not be the rain after the drought but I am the sky above the sea.
To you I'm nothing, I am not the reason you wake up, not the reason you get out of bed or open your eyes. I'm not what you look forward to, but I am what you need to survive. You run to me when she's not there. I may not be the reason you wake up but I am the reason you're alive.
I am not her but the funny thing is she will never be me.
