Arcturus Black hated these kinds of things.

If it weren't for his wife he was certain he wouldn't last more than five minutes before he succumbed to the urge to just get up and leave, not before hexing the hell out of these ostentatious posers who kept trying to gain his favour because of his influential position in the dark sect of the wizengamot.

As he watched his wife greet everyone that came through the door with a smile on her face he was getting more and more convinced that she wasn't human. How could she be if she actually had the patience and tolerance to deal with every entitled pompous ass that thought that just because they had been invited, (out of courtesy) that they had the same social standing as them. Which of course is absurd.

The blacks were royalty in the wizarding world, people who claimed to be on their level were just kidding themselves.

His wife was currently humouring the Carrow family.

Safe to say he didn't like them one bit, but that much could be figured out just by his facial expression.

He was barely restraining himself from outright sneering at them when he saw some twinkling come from the main entrance.

Ah, there she was, the woman of the hour.

He wasn't all that surprised when she accepted his invitation, after all, they had left on a friendly enough note and he was certain that the gargantuan sum of money the St-Mungoes board agreed to pay her endeared himself to her enough to promise a good enough relationship between the two.

The simple truth was that Lady Peverell was a mystery. He did not know her well enough to succeed in predicting her.

For the past few weeks, the wizengamot had been obsessed with finding out where her political allegiance lies.

Both the Light and Dark factions were determined to get her and her very valuable seats to their side of the cause.

Even though she is the lady of a traditionally Dark family and seems to adhere to pureblood customs, everything was put back into question when the news of her employing vampires and werewolves broke out.

He personally didn't have too much of an issue with it she could do whatever she wanted for all he cared but it had raised questions about her allegiance to the dark.

To do something so radical was unheard of even the lightest of the light wouldn't dare hire such people and it scandalized many. So it would be interesting to see how the night would progress.

His wife was able to shoo off the Carrows just in time for them to be able to welcome her properly.

"Welcome Lady Peverell, we are glad you are in attendance" The woman next to Lord Black said whom Holly assumed to be his wife. She was quite cute, very short and her blond hair looked a bit out of place next to her husband's jet black. Something about her made Holly immediately think Hufflepuff.

She decided that she liked it.

She let down part of her cold facade to smile at them. And it was at that moment that she realized that she didn't have any friends in this time. She had been so occupied by her work and Tom that it had completely slipped her mind that she didn't actually have any sort of friendships with other people.

'Well, no time like the present!' She thought to herself.

"Thank you Lady Black its an honour to be here and can I just say that I simply adore your home, is the frontage marble?"
