Tom was bouncing on the balls of his feet outside of Holly's bedroom door. He knew that he shouldn't wake her up and that it wouldn't actually do anything but he was really too excited to care.

He was starting school today.

He hoped that the kids there would be nicer than the ones at the orphanage. 'Of course they will, they have magic too' but the doubt remained as he was not going to be convinced of that until he had experienced it himself to make sure.

Once he had effectively woken Holly up with his frantic running around, they had breakfast. Kippy had made croissants with fruit today, which promised a good day ahead. As they were eating his head shot up as if he forgot something,

"Holly, can you help me with my clothes, please? I don't know what to wear"

"Of course, Tom don't worry about it, what colour do you want today? Pink?"She said teasingly.

Steven who was eating his own breakfast away from them snickered at that with a hiss.

Holly looked at the snake with a joking eye and smiled sweetly, "would you like to be turned pink Steve?

If Holly didn't know that snakes couldn't she would've sworn that he was glaring at her. Tom interrupted their staring contest, "No Holly I don't want to wear pink on the first day, it will give people the wrong idea about me, what about green?"

Holly looked at him with a smile, "of course you can wear green Tom, can I ask why?"

He answered in an assured way, "Holly, I would wear black, because then people would see how serious I am, but it might be scary to the others so all that was left were the two nice dark colours, blue and green, but blue is boring. So green.

Holly laughed a bit at the amount of thought he put into his outfit, "Ok Tom, whatever you say"

He left to get dressed, with Steven following closely behind

When Tom was ready, Kippy ha made him a lunch to bring to school with him and hugged him hard, wishing him luck on his first day of school,"Not that little master needs luck, he is the bestest wizard of them all!"

Holly shot her a fake hurt look and took Tom's hand wishing Kippy goodbye and apparated away.

Tom sat in his introduction to transfiguration class and looked over his classmates with annoyance. He really should have expected them to have the brainpower of a damn carrot.

Apparently, even if you were magical, children were always idiots. They were all waving their wands and just expecting their blade of grass to turn into a splinter.

Had none of them ever heard of intent? Or even picked up a book about magical theory?

All of the more obscure books that he'd managed to read had all assured him that silly wand waving was just that. Silly. There was simply no need for incantations at all. It's not like the magic was in the words, it was in him, or else muggles should have no issues performing magic if provided with a wand.

Don't even get him started on wands. It was like training wheels on a muggle bicycle. If he had it his way he wouldn't the using one.

When he asked Holly she had said that he should use his wand during school because his magic had not finished developing yet.

Bollocks in his opinion.

He was far more advanced than everyone else in the room, surely his magic had developed already.

As his teacher praised him on his splinter showing it around to the class he allowed himself to be slightly disappointed.

He had thought that this would be harder.

Hopefully, the next class will be more interesting.

As it turned out it was, he had the necromancy class next with professor Haas, who had been really nice to him before.

'This is so cool'  he thought to himself as he watched the professor reanimate a squirrel corpse in front of the class.

Of course the squirrel didn't look normal, it was still missing an eye and a majority off it's fur, but it made it all the cooler.

He seemed to not be the only one in his class who thoroughly enjoying this as the blond boy he was sitting next to in class has visible excitement shining in his eyes.

He hadn't seen him in his previous class and he seems to be alone like him.

Tom smiled at the boy hesitantly and he returned it hesitantly.

'Maybe not everyone here is awful then' he thought to himself.

Holly was at work, a little bit distracted.

Is Tom ok? Are the other kids being nice to him?

She knew that in her original timeline he had had some issues with bullying, both at Hogwarts and the orphanage, but logically she knew that he would be fine. If there was trouble he would know how to handle it.

The amount of trust that she had in him had not completely sunk in yet, but when it had she found that she trusted him irrevocably.

She trusted Tom Riddle, the irony was not lost on her.

And wasn't that funny? She cared so strongly for him, loved him even, he was her son now and nothing would change that.

Nothing could change that.

Work had been relatively uneventful recently, she had already secured most of her international deals for the potion and no one country had given her any particular problems but today that was to change.

One of the countries had refused her terms and wanted to renegotiate. Why they didn't agree, she did not know, what she did know was that it was a pain in her ass.

She sighed as she looked over the response. This could be dealt with later she thought to herself.

She was meeting Mrs.Black for lunch today, they were going yo some fancy Italian place and she was famished.

She was quite excited to finally have an adult to talk to. She loved Tom, but she really couldn't tell him about half of the stuff she needed to get off her chest.

Which was why Melania Black was such a blessing. The woman was a Hufflepuff, her loyalty basically basically preventing her from gossiping to other members of the society.

But more than that Holly genuinely felt like they were friends and she was finally able to discuss the topic always in her head; Grindelwald and his unexpected character.

It was so easy to hate someone when they don't have a soul and are insane, but the thing was that he was not.

Grindelwald seemed like a coherent human, maybe a little psychopathic, but nonetheless not completely evil, which meant that she couldn't lump him in the same category as Voldemort even though she knew exactly how he would turn out.

She remembered the first time she saw Melania after the ball. The woman had pounced on her bombarding her with questions about him and how they knew each other. Apparently he was a very illusive character and she had said that he had never shown interest in anyone like that before.

"What happened?" She had asked and now Holly couldn't help but think of that again.

What had happened and why was she waiting for it to happen again as it no doubt would.
