UPDATED AUTHOR'S NOTE - I did some editing and adding to this chapter, so you'll want to re-read! It's not perfect by any means, but I like this one much better than how it was written before :)

7/10 - changed some wording between Jim and Pam at the end because I realized it didn't make sense with how I had written things at the beginning of the chapter.

Later that evening, Charlotte rang the doorbell at the Halpert's home and smiled as she heard Pam's voice getting closer and closer from the other side yelling, "I'll get it! I'll get it! I'll get it!". The door was whisked open to reveal her smiling friend.

"Hi, again," Charlotte said as she stepped inside and hung her purse on the coat rack.

"Hi. Settle a debate for me and Jim," Pam said as she took the pie out of Charlotte's hands. "I think David's too afraid to take a side," she called over her shoulder with a grin as she brought the dessert to the kitchen.

"Charlie! Come on in," called Jim.

"Hey, Charlotte," David acknowledged her from a sitting chair with a small wave. Charlotte greeted him back and settled into the cushioned chair next to his. She had hoped her reaction to him earlier today during their meeting was just an isolated thing. It wasn't a big deal to find a man attractive, but when the man in question was your boss? Obviously it was inappropriate, right? So now, she mentally scolded her cheeks for flushing at the sight of him sitting casually in his chair with one foot crossed over his knee, top buttons of his white shirt undone, and sleeves rolled up to his elbows. Thankfully, David started speaking and she shook those thoughts away before she started doing something stupid, like drooling over the CEO.

"I'm not afraid to take a side," he was saying. "But I'm not sure this is a black and white issue. There are other angles to consider."

"What angles?" Pam asked as she walked back into the living room and curled up on the sofa next to Jim.

"Wait," Charlotte interrupted. "What are we debating?"

Jim heaved a sigh,"Well, Pam says that it's entirely possible for men and women to be friends without ever having any romantic feelings for each other, but I disagree."

Pam touched her husband's knee. "You and I were friends for a long time!"

"Yeah, and I had a big fat crush on you from the very beginning!"

Pam sat back with a groan.

David sat forward, rested his elbows on his knees and addressed Pam again. "Ok, what if one person already has a significant other? I mean, I think of you as a friend, but I have no romantic feelings for you whatsoever."

"That's good to know," Jim joked, causing the others to chuckle.

"But," David continued with a sly grin, "then again, didn't Pam have a significant other when you met her? She was engaged, right?"
