Mirabel POV

"I guess this is it."

As the horizon turns into a beautiful red and yellow sunset, I stealthly sneak out from the window.

A few minutes of walking later, I arrive at the mountains.

"These are way bigger than I thought."

I start climbing at a point that seems the lowest height to the top. At first it was a bit hard, but I quickly got the hang of it. Even though I was nowhere near the end, I couldn't give up.

Eventually I got to a small platform and took a minute to admire the scenery. Just a few breaths later I was back to struggling my way up. There were some slippery stones, but I got up to the top in the end.

At this point there was no way Dolores could hear me, even if she tried. I could catch my breath for longer this time.

As I was looking through the infinite land before me, I realised i had to get down somehow. It was a little risky but I had no other option than to climb backwards till i see a path I can take.

After a long time. I was finally down. That was when I really saw how big this world is. Wherever I looked around me, nowhere anyone, just a never ending set of trees.

Although I do see a river. I think it would be a good idea to follow it. Maybe there is a village along it's shore.

It's a real pain to see in the forest. In the clearings it was lit by the moon a bit atleast. I decided it's best if I settle down for the night. I find a big fallen tree, and settle down under it. If it starts raining I don't want to soak through my clothes.

With everything thats happened, I quickly fall asleep. I was too tired to think for hours.

I wake up to a stream of light hitting my face.

"Ugh, is it really morning already?"

I ask, not really excepting an answer. I slowly sit up, and successfully hit my head on the tree.

"Good to see you're alive."

I hear a raspy voice say.

"Huh, who are you?"

I say as I turn my head around to meet a man with dark brown hair and greyish(?) eyes. His clothes are covered in dirt and he has a lot of big and small scars along his face and arms.

"My name is Sergio, but I think you should be more concerned about where you sleep. If I didn't interfere you wouldn't be alive right now."

The man says. I stand up and dust myself off. What does he mean by that?

"Nice to meet you, my names Mirabel. Wait? What do you mean I wouldn't be alive-"

I was cut off by him pointing at a dead puma.

"How did you even manage to kill that thing?!"

I say in shock. To my suprise he remained oddly calm about the situation and started speaking.

"I know a thing or too when it comes to hunting. Now come on, if we linger here for long we might encounter soldiers. We are close to the war zones."

What? A war? I wonder, as I reluctantly follow behind him. I am still more safe with him than on my own.

A long way of walking later we arrive at a place that seems like an abandoned village.

" Is this where you live? "

I ask, now curious about this place. There may be other people in here with him.

"Yes, I do. However, I live here on my own. All the others that lived here were taken away. I was fortunate enough to be away for the time the army was here. Next time we may not be so lucky."

He talks as he goes into one of the houses. He brings out large knife and starts skinning the puma.

" What are you going to do with it? "

I say, looking away from the gory scene.

" I'm skinning it, its coat is useful for a lot of things. "

He replies while resuming his previous action. He soon notices I'm looking away from the corpse.

"Oh, come on. It's not that gory. You have to atleast get used to it if you wanna stay alive in a warzone like this."

I slowly turn my head to see an almost skinless animal laying before him.

I few minutes later he is fully done with his work and motions for me to come after him.

" Where are we going now? "

" We're getting some water and then I'll show you where you stay in the meantime."

He says, not looking at me and filling a big pitcher with water.

He then leads me to the house he previously got his knife from.

"I don't know when they'll decide to come for the belongings of the people. Until then we only come out when nessecary. If we don't want to get involved we can't bring attention to ourselves."

As he talks I cant help but notice he started putting up another bed.

" This is where you will sleep, or you can sleep on the floor. Whatever you'd like. Rest now, if we want to survive we need energy and start leaving tomorrow. I'll pack the neccesities and then go to sleep too."

I'm a little taken aback by his calmness. I suppose I should rest for a while. He said we're leaving tomorrow. I hope we get out safely. I think i can trust him.
