CHAPTER II

Jordan. In the hospital. He wasn't only lying in his bed with a few bruises. He was lying on a hospital bed in a room that was synonym to suffering, fear and abandonment.

I'm scared.

What if he never wakes up? The doctors told us they had no idea when he would be conscious again. They said it like it wasn't obvious enough that a head trauma, three broken ribs, a punctured lung and the tibia bone cut weren't things that healed easily.

Milk.

A quart of milk.

A fucking plastic bag of milk that wasn't important to anyone.

A damn drink was all he was trying to get when he walked down that shortcut and got attacked by a group of guys to who he owed money. Because some fucking idiots threw rocks at our house and broke our windows. We didn't have enough money to pay for repairs, so Jord had to borrow some...to the wrong group of people. And now, here I am, sat beside his cold and impersonal bed, trying to understand why bad things always have to happen to us.

"Laurence? I have to go back to work. Are you gonna stay with him?" asked my dad.

I don't even have enough strength to answer him because I feel like I will scream at him if I open my mouth. It's not like he cares about him.

Or about me.

_______________________

My brother's doctor finds me with my head buried in the mattress and marks printed on my forehead when he comes into the room. Oh my God, I probably look horrible right now...

"Oh, sorry to disturb."

Nope. Not my brother's doctor. If it's him, he is twenty years younger, got a hair transplant and changed his clothing style to look as classy as a doctor could. Shit. This doesn't make any sense, this guy has to be my age!

"Who are you?"

"Bieber. Justin Bieber."

"Well, Bieber, go put your diapers back, it's a hospital here. You're not supposed to come in a room because you feel like it."

"I'm an intern. My teachers told me to help doctors take care of this patient so I can continue my forma-"

"I don't give a shit about why you're here! I stopped listening to you after you said intern. I actually know what an intern is."

"Miss, I'm going to need you to change your tone. A stressful environment could affect the patient's reco-"

"Wait. Did you hear the way you're talking?! Do you have a stick up your ass or are you just born that way?"

"My parents simply taught me to-"

"Actually, you weren't supposed to answer that. Now, just do what you're here for and after, please be nice and get out."

Seems like I shut him up, since he stopped talking and just stared at me, until the door opened again and a man came in.

"What is taking you so long? Don't you know how to check the vital signs on a patient? Justin, if you want to become a doctor, you're going to have to- Oh. Hello miss Jones. Did your dad leave?"

"If he's not here, then yes, he's gone.

"Smart girl. So, Justin, are you done?"

Just by looking at them, it's not hard to tell that there were a lot of similarities between the man in front of me and the boy who was checking up on my brother. The older man was probably his uncle or something like that.

"Yes, father. I only have to check his pulse and then, I'm done.

Okay. So he wasn't any member of his family. He was his father! He was only a rich kid after all. Who follows his dad's steps. Eww. Another spoiled kid who got everything he wanted without even trying. He probably didn't even do the exams like the other interns had to. Why would he when daddy's here for him?

"Hurry up, I can't wait for you forever. I'll be at the office filling the papers, I have other things to do."

Bieber Junior answers him by nodding his head, still focused on the things he's writing down on his notepad.

"Wow, Bieber Senior isn't in a good mood today."

Without even looking at me, Junior continues his work. Never disappoint daddy!

"No. He's always like that."

And he gets out of the room, without a single glance in my direction.
