- Nine days later... -
Desperation. Urgency. Fear.
These are what permeated the air inside the Helestan Capital as well as in the surrounding areas. It felt infectious, lounging its metaphorical arms and grabbing onto the hearts of those nearby. It was like an aura, perhaps even a curse that is comparatively similar to the innate one within the Dreadknights. Desperation, urgency and fear, however, sometimes creates the strongest of bonds.
Those three things coupled with the sense of danger and a shared, common enemy is what brought the cast to committing to their actions now.
Remarkably, within days after the warning was given, the Capital city managed to form a working de facto military command structure that will direct efforts to where they are needed the most. Grandi took overall command of the Capital's garrison and its defenses, with the troops of the vassal houses set to answer to him while Diana led the efforts to mobilize the citizens into overdrive. Production of all materials needed for the upcoming siege soared as a result.
(Falric), being the highest ranking Felgardian experienced in mounted warfare present, is given command of about a hundred Helestan horsemen that the garrison could muster to augment their force of barely two hundred cavalrymen. Less than a hundred more Felgardian cavalrymen as well as the majority of their foot guards are put on support roles under Sir Giazza's command due to still injured riders.
Dale has left with a handful of kalators days earlier in an effort to intercept Wrynn's presumably contempt-fueled advance to the Helestan Capital. Now, all that they can do is pray that he succeeds.
The garrison received word that the rebel army has already captured several towns on their way to the Capital - the distance between the opposing factions are now only tens of miles away and decreasing. (Falric) and the Felgardian princes which include Kaldan, Mateo and Sergius who are acting as his deputies along with several Helestan cavalry officers set out with their combined cavalry regiment to warn the remaining towns and convince them to take refuge in the Capital or anywhere away from the advancing revolutionaries.
Within the castle, the advisors and the nobles are uncharacteristically united, working together tirelessly to come up with strategies and contingency plans to counter Éleanor's army of rebels. Further into the castle's interior, the different but capable talents who volunteered to help are working to create tools using magic and, in Ange's case, alchemy. Other friends have also joined them after hearing of the national recall and the likes of Rindou Mikoto, Belmond Banderas, Ars Armal, and Ex Albio along with the Felgardian prince, Lev, to name a few answered to provide whatever assistance they could.
The group that can be described as a scientific and thaumatugic effort that worked around the clock with the kingdom's sorcerers to create spells, potions, and other magical paraphernalia that their soldiers in the front lines can use to great effect worked just as tirelessly as their soldiers in the battlements. Lize, Ex Albio, Lev, and Marek worked to enchant weapons that will be supplied to the soldiers and anyone willing to take up arms. Ange, Hada, Mikoto and to an extent, Belmond created potions of all useful kinds. The rest including Ars and Nui, even Lize's siblings, Diana and Klein, and the kingdom's sorcerers worked to create spells of both the supportive and destructive kind.
No second is wasted and no ounce of material is discarded. They need everything that they can put to use. It is a race against time and with no help coming from the Winged Highlords of Harold, all they can do is intensify their efforts.
Speaking of which, Enna Alouette, the representative of the Winged Highlords saw their struggle with her own eyes and gave in not long later. She offered to lend her personal assistance and she was readily welcomed to do so. When she did, she baffled everyone including the royal sorcerers with her knowledge and aptitude with thaumaturgy.
