Today, again, wasn't an ordinary day. It's the day of the reaping for the annual 74th Hunter Games. The Hunter Games is a punishment, literally. There used to be thirteen districs, but 13 rebelled against 'Heaven'. As, well, punishment, they held a murder match every year. The Reaping is when 2 names are pulled out of a ballet. If nobody volunteers, those two are shipped off into an arena to fight to the death. They either win, or die trying. Now, each district calls a different gender mix. I mean, 12, our district, always sends in two boys. Why? No idea. I'm pretty sure 8 sends in two girls. Now, I was never called, but I gotta say, most of the guys who were called are pretty hot. Just saying.

"Alright Sammy, come on, we have to go." I said, pulling on my boots. I felt my wings strain a bit, so I zapped them back. It's hard, trying to keep my wings back. They like to puff out when I'm having strong emotions.

"Alright." He grumbled quietly, walking over to the door, which I was out of and following dad in a second. Sam followed soon after, muttering something about my hair. We walked down the street, and, being me, caught about six girls staring at me. Thing is, they didn't know that I was about as straight as a rainbow slinkey. Yeah, I'm gay. The people here don't exactly take that sort of thing kindly, so I've kept quiet about it. I told Sammy and Dad already, and they took it well, thank the lord. That was a pun. Once we finally got to the middle of the city where the Reaping was held, Sam and I walked off to the roped off areas where the tributes stood. All male, between 12 and 18 years old. It's really unfair, I mean, they put in a young man, or men, against some kids.

"Dean, I feel like a chicken for saying this, but can I hold your hand? I'm really scared." I heard Sammy say. I looked down to see him blinking back tears, a deep frown etched into his face.

"It's okay Sammy, here. Don't cry, you won't be picked. I won't allow it. And remember, your angel pin." I said. He smiled and rubbed his finger along the pin.

"Plus, you'd kill everyone anyway." I added in a whisper. He smiled up at me and gripped my hand, burying his face in the sleeve of my shirt. "And now, they're gonna stab your finger for blood. Did you remember how to-"

"Yes, Dean, you told me a million times. Free my grace from my finger, keep my wings tucked in. I got it." He whispered back. We stepped forward in line.

"Next." The lady said. Sam stepped forward and gave her his hand. I watched as the skin on his hand turned a very slightly different shade. A little more reddish. She scanned the blood and- thank god- he was okay. A few more guys were in front of me, so I waited until it was my turn and slipped my grace from my fingers. You can track angel blood, that's why we do this. I felt the little pin prick of pain and willed my wings back, and it was over. Everybody else finished until we were all standing in the roped-off. I looked over at Lisa, where she was standing in a long brown dress.

'Good luck.' I mouthed to her.

'You too.'

Everybody was dead silent as a guy walked out, all dressed up and formal, with a sickly-sweet smile plastered on his face like a damn mask. The only thing slightly normal were his wings. They were pure red, of course. Angels stood everywhere, white uniforms with white angel wings spread about.

"Welcome, welcome, welcome! Happy hunger games, and may the odds be ever in your favor!" Lucifer said.

"Now, before we begin, we have a very special film." Psh. Special. Please.

"Brought to you all the way from Heaven!" He gestured to the screen. The projecter flicked on and played the video that they play at every single reaping, to remind us of the rebellion.

The video was finally over.

"I just love that!" He said after mouthing the last words. Something about the future of Earth or something stupid.
