We got home pretty late that night, after finally managing to get Ebony into her bed and getting her to stay put, I headed back downstairs
I wanted to sort of mellow out before heading to bed
Plus if I wait it out, Ebony will fall asleep and there is less risk of my making a noise and gaining her attention again

The night sky tonight was full of stars, you know how some days you can't see them that well. Tonight was not one of those nights, it was so crystal clear you could see when one sparkled a little extra
It's one of the few things I like about being back in this small town, there isn't much light pollution so the stars are usually visible

"hey B" A voice said making me turn to see Garrett walking out of the house taking a seat next to me
"So there are one of two reasons you are out here instead of with Eb" I said making him chuckle as he raised a brow
"Go on" He asked taking a seat next to me
"Either Ebony is awake and she is annoying you which I mean pretty likely" I said making him roll his eyes
"Or she's asleep and drunk snoring" I said making him nod
"That girl only snores when she is wasted" He groaned making me laugh

I looked back up at the sky taking another look at the stars
"You know Bry, you should give yourself a little credit" Garrett said earning my attention
"For what?" I asked as he leaned back on his hands
"Well for starters you are one of the strongest girls I've ever met" He said making me gasp a little
"Don't let Ebony hear you say that" I said making him push my lightly

"I'm serious, when you all lost your mum.. I know it hit you the most, you were always the closest to both of your parents" He said
"And then you lost Megan two years later to the same thing" He said making me bow my head
"That takes some strong shoulders Bry" He said and I smiled at him

"I realised something the other day" I said making Garrett hum in response looking at me
"Mum would always remind me how strong I am, how I can handle anything life throws at me" I started
"I never understood why she would remind me that so much but now I do" I said looking up at the stars, one started to twinkle that little bit more making me smile
"she knew one day, I'd have to live without her" I whispered making Garrett sigh as he put an arm around me pulling me into a side hug

"You know, when I met you Bryony, I wasn't too sure on who you were" Garrett said making me look at him confused
"Like I knew you were Eb's sister but there is so much more to you then that" He continued
"Both of your siblings have made their roots here in town, they know what their plan is but you? You're still figuring it out" He smiled

"And I think you don't know it yet but you've got a hell of a story at your finger tips" He smiled making me smile back
"You don't need to know everything right now as long as you listen to your head and your heart" He continued making me chuckle

"Alright, I truly think you've been dating Ebony for too long now" I said making him burst out laughing
"What I'm trying to say Bryony is that, even though you are still struggling, whether you admit it or not, you've come a long way since you last looked back" He said making me smile

I nodded looking back at the stars before Garrett spoke again
"You know they say, the stars are in fact our lost loved ones making us know that they are watching, that they are happy with how things are going for us" He smiled and I smiled too. It was something small like that, that makes living that much easier

"Do you think Mum is looking down?" I asked and he nodded
"And I bet she's proud of the woman you're becoming Bry" He said hugging me again
"Just as proud as you should be" He said as I leant my head on his shoulder
