Chapter 4: Careful where you tread

You walk out from behind the wall and look Priscilla in the eyes.

"Leave her alone," you say, hand on your sword. Priscilla laughs.

"Please darling, I could kill you whenever I want. You are no match for me. I suggest you walk away and forget about this like a good little girl," Priscilla says, a thin smile crossing her face. X looks at you in pure fear. You grit your teeth and prepare to fight. No one deserves to be treated like that and as a Demon Slayer, it is your job to help the weak. Just then you hear the voice of Emma, Ray, and Norman as they turn the corner. Before Priscilla leaves stomps on X and walks by you

"Watch your back Y/N," she says and walks away. You rush over to X. X wipes the edge of her mouth with the corner of her sleeve. You see that her white sleeve has blood on it.

"Who is that X?" you ask putting a hand on her shoulder. She looks up at you.

"An old friend," she says grimly. Finally, Emma overcomes her surprise and runs off to both of you.

"Friends don't beat you up. Who is she and why did she call herself your master?" Emma says concerned. X shakes her head.

"I don't want to scare any of you," she says. You have seen some pretty scary things and if it could scare you it would scare Emma and the others.

"Tell us," Ray says. X sighs.

"Like you, all know I am not from here, but I was also raised in an orphanage with many siblings. There was a war going on where we come from I didn't want to be part of it so I ran, right into my new friends. We teamed up and decided it was time to get out of that place. To do so we had to sign up to be an experiment for a lab in the middle of nowhere and that's where I got my ears and tail. After that we ran. One time we got cornered and I stayed behind so the others could escape. The men caught me and sold me, at the time I didn't know it was my friend's mom, to Priscilla. A few months later I escaped and when I was running away I fell into this world. I need to get out of here before she can take me back." You stare at X in silence.

"That must have been terrifying for you," Emma says at last in a hushed tone. The aura around Ray had darkened when X had been telling her story and he seemed about to explode in anger about how his friend had been treated.

"So did she treat you like that the whole time?" Norman asks trying to understand.

"I don't want to talk about what happened with her," X says shakily. You nod. 'I must be hard to tell someone who you just met all about what has been happening over the last few months. You put your hand out for X to take. She grabs your hand and stands up. You pat her shoulder.

"We should get back to the children. They will start to notice that we are gone," you say. X nods and all five of you walk away. After X decides to go back to your room you go to play outside with the young kids. The young children love your long H\C hair and they braid most of your hair. This act makes you smile. These young children must be protected from Daki at all costs. Out of the corner of your eye, you see Isabella and Priscilla talking to each other. You wonder where Hibiki is and then you remember that she went after Daki. You shiver. Then you see Ichike at the door of the house.

"I have to go, but I will be back soon, " You say getting up. Some of the young ones grumble but they let you go. You met Ichike at the doors and she takes you inside to the library where Emma, Ray, and Norman are sitting around a table. Emma nods to you as you walk in. You can feel the seriousness of the situation. You take a seat next to Emma at the end of the table.

"We have to tell you some, Y/N," Ray says, "This whole place is a farm of demons and we need your help to escape."
