Syrus: Blind Date

You find yourself grumbling about a blind date you are supposed to go on tonight. You usually turn down these kind of things, but your friend had begged you until you agreed. Now you are dreading the kind of boy she set you up with.

You catch a cab to your favorite restaurant. "Reservations under Rhodes?" You ask the waitress.

"Right this way." You follow her to a table. A boy was already sitting there.

"Are you Syrus?" You ask, trying not to sound disappointed. Sitting before you was a small, skinny boy with wildly fluffy hair and small round glasses. He was blushing madly and staring at the floor.

"That's me. You're Alexis's friend?"

You introduced yourself and tried to think of other things to say.

The entire dinner was awkward, but this kid was growing on you. He was cute, like a kitten. After dinner you went for a walk to a beautiful park. You were surrounded by blooming tulip trees and in the center of the walk was a large lake. You sat down on the bank and watched the tulip petals float down to the water.

Syrus sat beside you. "Are you disappointed?"

You look down at him. "Why would I be disappointed?"

"You didn't seem too happy when you first saw me." The blush returned to the small boy's cheeks. "Do you wish I was someone else? Maybe someone more good looking?"

"No! Not at all, really. The truth is, I was just having a bad day and when I have days like this I get all snappy and I was trying not to let it out on you and-ah!" Syrus was leaning on your shoulder. He almost fell into the lake. "Syrus!"

"Ah! Sorry, sorry. Believe me, you're not the only one who's had bad days."

"What did you do?"

"Um, just... stay up all night watching Yugioh and reading fanfics all night..."

You laugh. "Wow, break the fourth wall much?"

He leans his head back on your shoulder, on purpose or accident. "Yeah, well..."

"Maybe-maybe we can do this again sometime?"

"Yeah, that sounds great..."

You silently thank Alexis for setting this up.
