"Miss Jennie, gising napo, kakain napo may pasok pa po kayo"Ate Evie's voice.
"Miss gising na poba kayo?"
I stood up and walked towards the door, opened it, and saw Ate Evie about to knock.
"AHH yes, thank you" I almost whispered when I spoke, and then she smiled at me.
"ahh hehehe sige po miss" I just smiled at her and closed the door. I heard some footsteps as she left.
I quickly took a shower and changed my clothes. Suddenly, I thought about my mom, dad, and brother. I wondered how they were doing and if they missed me too. I felt a drop of water fall from my eyes, but I wiped it away quickly.
I don't know why, but I know they don't remember me. However, here I am, always hoping they will reach out and explain. But now, it seems like I'm feeling angry, annoyed, and upset. While I was lost in thought, my phone suddenly rang, and that's when I noticed my tears. "Why am I crying?" I thought to myself.
"Hello, who's this?" I answered without looking at who was calling.
"Hey girl, where are you? Are you coming to school? Hurry up, we might be late." said Sofia. I realized it was just her. It was only 6:03 AM, and our class doesn't start until 7:30 AM.
"It's still early. Don't rush. Are you the one who's going to open the school gate and classrooms?!" I said, knowing that Sofia always acts like she's the one responsible for opening everything.
"UGHH, nevermind HAHAH hurry up, you're so slow. You're slower than a turtle." Sofia replied. I was about to respond and shout at her, but she hung up on me
As I went downstairs, I saw Nanay Belet preparing food on the table. I wished it was my real parents who were doing that for me and taking care of me. Nonetheless, I felt grateful for Nanay Belet's kindness.
"Gising kana pala, halika na at kumain kana" They called me, and I stood there, watching them. I hoped they didn't think badly of me, even though I sometimes treat them poorly. My eyes started to well up with tears again, and I quickly wiped them away, hoping they wouldn't notice.
"Anong tinatayo tayo mo dyan, halika na, may masakit ba sayo?" Nanay Belet asked me with concern as she approached me. I felt happy that she was always there for me, ever since I was a child.
She asked again, "May problema ba iha?" I felt frustrated, I swear, one more question like that and I'll lose my mind!
"Ah, I just got a bit dizzy, Nay. Hehe, what's for breakfast?" I asked, trying to control my emotions. I needed to be strong, especially now.
"Madami anak, tara tara" I let her lead me she pulled me towards the table.
"Hi miss kain na kayo, masarap po yan promise" Parang batang sabi sa akin ni Ayla.
I replied with a smile. She had become like a sister to me, and I was happy to have her.
I scooped up a spoonful of food and was about to eat it when I noticed they were both watching me. It wasn't normal, and I felt uncomfortable. They didn't have to wait for me; they were no different from me. I told them to eat with me instead.
"Aahhh ehhh c-can you eat with me?" I asked, feeling embarrassed that they were watching me. I didn't want to seem like I was showing off my food to them.
"Ayy, Miss di na po" nakangiting sabi ni Ate Evie.
"Come on, let's eat together." I urged them, raising my eyebrows. I knew that was one of the reasons why they felt compelled to follow my lead.
