I creeped slowly away from the library and back towards the backdoor of the house, the sounds of snarls and hisses echoed through the dark empty hallway of my home. Shadows cast against the walls from the light of the moon, shifted and flashed as bodies were thrown about from outside the windows.

How the hell were we going to stop this? These vamps weren't from around here but had very obviously been given my scent. They were sent here for me and from what the one blood sucker had said, they were to ensure I was not to be harmed.

"Who ever it is that wants us, they want us delivered safe and sound." Lupin muttered.

"That's not all that reassuring, honestly." I muttered.

"Then we need to make sure we don't get captured, My Carter."

"Oh, yes of course. Why didn't I think of that?" I rolled my eyes. This damn wolf sometimes.

I could feel her roll her eyes as she begins anxiously pacing back and forth in my mind. So far tonight she had sat in the background of it all, while making sure we saved the pups. Now that they were as out of harms way as we could have gotten them, she pushed her energy forward. I could feel her anger and bloodlust burn like wildfire, licking its way through my veins.

She was just as protective of the pups as I was, if not more so. Seeing them cower in fear, hiding, running for their lives, it had thrown her for a loop. She wasn't going to back down tonight, those who put our babies in jeopardy, would regret it in the morning.

When I reached the French doors that led to the back of the house, I threw them open. One of the doors swung open hard and slammed against the back of the house, catching the attention of one vampire immediately. He stopped his impending attack on an unaware dark brown wolf and straightened. A vile sneer took over his too white face and he began to stalk over towards me.

Sharp, bone white porcelain fangs peaked out from between his full lips that were currently pulled up in a sinister smirk. He had shaggy dark hair and wide eyes the color of dried blood that were surrounded by rows of thick lashes. In another lifetime I would have said he was attractive, but today, while he was currently attacking my pack and stalking towards me? Not so much.

"No one compares to mates." Lupin complained in my head and I roll my eyes.

"Yes, ridiculous canine, I am aware. I would never want any other, but I am still aware of the attractiveness of another person." I shook my head trying to get my focus back.

"No. Mates only. Stupid human."

"Alright, good fuck dog. The vampire is ugly as sin. Is that better for you?"

She snorts and I feel her hackles lay back down. Her presence is still sharp and to the front of my mind in case the vamp attacks but her surly attitude has calmed minutely. Stupid, temperamental canine. You would think that after five years, she would have realized that Quinn and Xander will always be our focus and her sensitive self could calm the fuck down, but no. Attitude for days with that one. It was very clear that while other people may be attractive, no one could ever make my heart race the way my mates did.

A shift in the vamp brought me attention back to the here and now. A sly smile on his face lets me know that he caught my lack of focus but a quick moment later, that same smile falls. Lupin shoves to the forefront of my mind and I know my bright blue eyes have shifted to an eerie white.

"Come with me, Luna. If you come now, easily and without complaint, I promise we will leave and no one will get hurt."

His voice was like silk and honey. Sickeningly sweet. The hairs on the back of my neck lifted and I let out a low growl.
