The sudden complete and utter silence has become deafening. A hush fell over the clearing and the sounds of my pack's struggle ceased. The air has become still, and the subtle whistle of the wind through the branches of the surrounding trees comes to a stand still, leaving the steady, anxiety filled beat of my heart as the only sound that fills my ears.
Our eyes fall on three robed women gliding gracefully into the grounds and Lupin snarls. The sound is too loud in the dull echo. The fur of our hackles raise further as my instincts scream danger. These women, witches I realize, exude power. I can smell it coming off of their bodies in waves.
I let my eyes fall over the grounds looking for my mates. They were together and flanked by their Beta's. Both Quinn and Xander's sights were locked onto the witches. I was relived that they hadn't been separated and if it came down to it, they could protect each other. The hooded figures begin moving in my direction, causing my eyes to lock back on them.
The deep set hoods that were now thrown over their shoulders, sway slightly with their movement. Each witch is similar in height, though their features were completely opposite. One blonde, one redhead, and one a deep brunette. All three of them had piercing purple eyes that were trained on my wolf singularly.
I had never felt more exposed before, than I was now under their gaze. It was as if they could see right through to the bare essence of my soul and knew whether I was worthy or not. Of what? I wasn't even sure at this point. Lupin pressed forward in her presence, snarling and baring her teeth while all I wanted to do was shrink back and protect myself.
I wasn't a weak woman, I was capable of holding my own. I had been taking care of myself since I was a little girl. Grandpa Jones was the only family member to have my back as a child and my parents failed me. I had to learn to be independent at a young age.
Feeling like I was out ranked right now was intimidating and it was not something I liked. I grit our teeth together and pushed my presence back to the forefront. I would not allow these witches to feel my weaknesses.
Warmth filled my veins at Lupin's pride. She was very much alpha and I could feel her displeasure at how I handled the past few moments. She would not let anyone take us down and I needed to step up to the plate and support her strength. She wouldn't fail me, now I needed to give that same loyalty back.
Three robed figures now stood a few mere feet in front of us. A sly, vicious smile simultaneously spreads over each of their faces, making me bristle once more. Who the hell were these people? Vampires, witches, what the hell is next? Zombies?
"The time has come, Queen of Wolves. You have a choice, come willingly, or we will take you by force."
They moved as a single unit, why I would assume they would talk on their own was beyond me. The eerie way they spoke in unison creeped me the hell out. Lupin bared our teeth once more and we shook our head. They nodded as if my response was exactly what they had expected and in moments I was surrounded.
Two witches moved to each side of me, while the last one, the brunette, stood behind us. A loud roar filled the air and my eyes locked in on my mates, struggling to get free of the mist and get to me before anything more could happen. I knew it was pointless, we weren't getting out of this.
Lupin turned sharply and latched her jaws onto the forearm of the blonde bitch at my side. Our teeth puncturing the perfect porcelain skin as blood now pooled in our mouth. She screamed and tried to pull back, but we weren't having it. I thrashed our head back and forth, her body following suit like a rag-doll before a zap of electricity shot through our body and we released her limb with a howl of pain.
"You dirty fucking mongrel! You will pay for that!" She snarls.
Aaaaah, so they can speak for themselves. They just choose to be creepy as fuck. That revelation is quite entertaining and I let it show with a big wolfy grin, much to their chagrin. My claws flex underneath me, the soft soil pulling up under each drag of my nails. I may not be able to release myself from this goddess be damned mist, while it is not painful, its hold is solid like a vice around each of my limbs.
