"you walk like you're drunk, yerin.", jake giggled as he watched the girl stumble on the streets.

"what if i am? it doesn't even matter anymore."

"hey, you know it's not your fault. he simply gave you high hopes and crushed them right after a good time full of food and laughter. you have nothing to blame yourself for."

"whatever. i'm glad finals are over and the ceremony is in a month."

"madame, you still need to attend school. it is required and your parents would not like to see their daughter skip school, would they?"

"jake, please. i neither want to think about school nor my parents nor anyone." yerin took out her keys out of her bag. "but i appreciate it a lot that you still accompanied me home. the boys must be wondering where you are right now since y'all wanted to attend the festival together."

"your safety come first, so you don't need to thank me for anything. just get into your apartment safely and rest well. i'll see you, right?", he flashed a smile at her before bidding goodbye.

jungwon, 8:47
oh my god, i heard the news.
are you alright? where are you?

sunghoon, 9:01
yerin, everyone is worried.
did you get home safely?

heeseung, 9:06
are you okay? why aren't
you responding? please
text us when you're home or smth

jay, 9:20
look, i know you're hurt. but
please, yerin, tell any of us once
you have made it home safely,
i am really sorry it turned [...]

yerin lazily threw her phone on the couch once she got rid of her shoes. "life is so unfair.", she mumbled.

it was now when she realised that she spent so much time for nothing when she could have studied more to meet her father's expectations. the space she made up for jay went in vain: all the time she could have studied, informed herself about business, taken care of jungwon, taken care of herself; wasted.

———

the next morning was a total chaos. someone was banging at her door like crazy, trying to get in. yerin ran to the door and looked through the little hole only to find heeseung on the other side.

"heeseung, what the fuck?", she yelled while opening the door.

"sorry.", he apologised with a bow, "i was just hella worried something happened last night. besides.. you know." "i get it, thanks for checking up on me.", she tiredly sighed and gestured him to come in.

"what happened after the festival though?" "didn't jake tell you? he brought me home and told me to rest well."

"jake didn't say a word this morning. he was silently eating his breakfast, acting as always." heeseung was suspicious. what is going on and why would jake not utter a word about it?

yerin gave him a glass of water as she started to prepare breakfast. "where's jungwon?"

"knocking some sense into jay."

"ah, i see. that means he won't come by today in any way, will he?"

"he probably will. just in the afternoon, i guess."

"i'm not in the mood to turn on my phone. just tell everyone i am doing fine, it's just.. weird how he fought over me with jake, then decided to act as if everything is okay and rejected me afterwards. it doesn't make sense, but to be honest.. there never was a thing between us, we simply hung out as friends. i shouldn't have expected any more than needed."
