The sun is warm today, you thought. So very warm. It was mid-summer. You figured this because the sun was in all its glory and the flowers had began to bloom. Today you decided to be modest and wear a pair of basketball shorts. You had a black wife beater that you got from your uncle. All your attire was borrowed from him, it seemed. The jewelry certainly was. Rings decorated your fingers top to bottom. They fit almost every part of a finger. You stopped beside a food stall, debating whether or not to buy something to eat.
You had no ounce of money on you, though. You rocked back and forth your heels. If someone were to walk past you the first thing they'd notice was the shiny case in your hand. It was black and had red drawings carved onto it. Your name was also carved in Japanese which was your uncle's first language. Even still he struggled to speak Korean so he opted to teach you Japanese so you could communicate with him.
Your clothes were dirty and sort of torn, having being found on the floor of the abandoned house you stayed in for now. You hopped house to house. You were basically homeless. You didn't like to say that but that was the truth. You had no family to return to. The only value thing you had was your sword and its case. You've never opened it before, maybe only once to get a look at the blade. Your uncle had told you to never open it unless you were out of options. He had taught you simple self-defense techniques that were no help to you.
Your thoughts wandered from subject to subject. You wondered what the people in your town thought. You wondered how their mind was wired. You wondered how they saw the world. Was it much different than yours? Were some more fortunate? Definitely, yes, some were more fortunate than you'd ever be. But what makes you so different than the others? Was it the way you lived? What separates you from mankind that you were in constant danger of your life being taken away from you any second? In the end, you were all the same. You all thought in your head. You all bled the same color, right? That's how everyone was connected.
"Are you sure this is the place?"
"Yes, I heard there's some pretty strong kids here."
Two voices. Two unfamiliar voices.
You kept your guard up. You slowly turned on your heel, making eye contact with two unfamiliar faces. You knew this town like the back of your hand, and you knew for sure you didn't get tourists. They looked expensive. They had flashy clothing and the way their mannerisms were just screamed rich. They approached you.
"Hello." The blonde greeted. Good, he was Korean. A language you could understand. You didn't answer for a moment and he looked back at his friend.
"Do you think she understands us?"
"Probably not. This place looks ancient. She probably speaks some unheard language."
"Who are you guys?" Your voice came out stone-cold. "Ah, she does speak Korean! How convenient, for us." The blonde clapped excitedly. "And she has a country accent." The last part was unnecessary, you thought. "Y/n L/n, that's you right?" Your blood turned to ice.
"Huh? Never heard of that name before." You waved them off and turned around, getting ready to walk away. "Hey.." A strong hand was placed on your shoulder. You looked up and froze. The blonde gave you a weird look and you knew that he knew you were lying. You gaze hardened. Your hand slowly reached down to grab the case tighter.
"Y/n L/n, we came to offer you something really important. Become my successor-"
You cut him off, "I don't even know what that means." You scoffed and shook your head. "Comin' to my town and saying big words to-" A fist was thrown at you, and you dodged it before it could hit you. You dodged it on natural instinct. Gun was surprised that you dodged Goo's punch. You reminded him of Sinu Han, but he could tell there was something way more different to you.
A loud clank sounded throughout the air. "Ow!" The blonde shrieked as he was hit in the side by the heavy sheath. It only hurt him because there was a katana safely tucked away inside. You didn't dare pull it out, though. You fought with Goo back and forth whilst Gun watched. He studied your movements intently. He took note of how sloppy you fought. Almost like a street fight. He could tell you underwent a ton of fights, but you were still weak. With the right training, he thought, you could become stronger.
Goo was suddenly thrown backwards. He skid across the floor and into the wall behind him. He crashed into a couple of stalls in the process. Store keepers yelled insults he didn't understand at him. You didn't waste any time and continued on relentlessly throwing punches left and right. You fought him with such speed that he doesn't expect where you were gonna hit from. The fight went on for awhile. You taunted him with mean insults to egg him on even more.
"Is that all you got?"
"Losing to a girl, really?"
He's out of it. He panted heavily and his eyes were half-lidded as he tried to catch his breath. "You done yet?" You called out to him in a whine. He shakes his head and so-fourth the fight began once again. You ended up with a busted nose and a busted lip. Goo only had a small bruise on his cheek, but his skin was turning red on the places you had whacked him with the case.
Dammit, not now..
Your legs wobbled and your knees buckled. You opened your mouth to speak, but you collapsed to the ground. You waved an imaginary flag. "I give up.." You spoke through gasps of air. You didn't want to give up, but you were kinda forced to, having starved for days on end. So, you were more tired than usual. You shakily brought your arm over your eyes. Your heard someone land next to you, so you could only assume Goo had fell down beside you.
"I win!"
You could hear the smile in his tone.
You silently spat curses at him in your mind whilst trying to catch your breath. "You're pale." A shadow towered over you. "I am?" You mumbled. "When's the last time you ate?"
"Uhh, maybe last Monday." You nodded in remembrance.
"It's Sunday, now."
You scarfed down the burger in your hand with no mercy. You didn't care there were two guys in front of you, you were starving. You shoved fries into your mouth before returning back to your burger. Gun waited until you were almost done before he offered a proposal.
"Look, I got a deal for you."
You glanced up at him from your drink. "Train under me."
"Huh?" You uttered out confusingly. "Train under you?" You scratched your cheek sheepishly. You took another drink from your fountain soda. "But why?" You asked the big question.
"You can become strong enough to succeed me." He answered simply. "You keep on saying that, but what's in it for me?" You sweat-dropped. "Oh, I should have told you sooner. You'll make a lot of money." Your eyes lightened up. "Why didn't you say that sooner?" You cheered. "If I get to have gourmet food like this everyday, then I'll do anything!" You grinned ear from ear happily. Money! You mentally cheered.
"Good. Then you'll be coming to South Korea with us."
