Lucian comforts me, holding me in his strong arms, as I watch my best friend lie on Cameron's couch, moving very seldomly. When she does stir, it is to murmur with a pained look on her face, a frown tugging the ends of her lips downward. Cameron can only sit, watching his beloved for so long before getting up and going for runs. It is miserable to even witness the pain he seems to suffer while watching his beloved.
"I can't stand this. I need music, I need to dance. I need my best friend back!" I leap to my feet and both boys look at me, alarmed.
"Where are you going, love?" Lucian pops onto his feet and goes to wrap his arms around me.
"For a walk. Cameron does it, and I can, too. Even if I am not a big bad wolf like you boys," I glower to silence any arguments they could possibly have.
Lucian's green eyes hold their own against my blue ones. I see the corners soften as he is overcome with emotions, and he just says, "Be careful, please, my love. I couldn't bear for anything to happen to you."
"If you need anything, just scream or shout for one of us, and we will both come for you. Please don't be out for too long, Alexa," Cameron insists.
"Fine." I take a flute with me.
I walk for almost an hour before pulling out the flute and playing a few simple and short tunes like Auld Lange Syne and then other songs like Skyscraper. I sway to my own rhythm, and all I want is for my best friend to wake back up and be herself.
So many memories. Late nights with horror movies and pints of mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Tears over my boyfriends, while Melody was supportive, unjudgemental, and ready to kick my exes' butts for me.
Laughter, sand at the beach, rare beach glass, cool waves lapping against our stomachs, shoulders.
So many great times and hard times alike.
I fall to my knees, tears streaming down my cheeks. I realize that the gray clouds above me are pouring sheets of rain over my head.
I feel strong arms around my shoulders, and I let everything go, and just start bawling, while Lucian carries me back to Cameron's house.
