i walked into school feeling happier than i've felt in a while. my old friend group was nothing but drama and i was relieved to maybe be part of a group that seemed so close and genuinely seemed to care for each other.

i went to find jules' locker, but ran into who i recognized as cassie.

"oh hey, you're (y/n), right?" she plastered a 100% fake smile on her face.

"yeah, and you're cassie?" i asked and she nodded.

"sorry, i really need to go." she started walking past me and i turned to her, "is everything okay?"

she turned to me, "yeah, great." she turned back around and quickly walked away. i continued to jules' locker.

"is cassie okay?" i walked up to jules.

"i think so, why?" she closed her locker and turned to me.

i just shrugged and jules changed the subject, "do you need a ride to the party tonight? maddy is picking some of us up, i can ask her to get you too."

"sure, that'd be great.. as long as it's okay with her." i smiled.

"ok cool, i'll ask her and let you know."

"thanks.. see ya." i headed to first period.

-

i was at my locker when i heard, "(y/n)? right?"

i turned around to see maddy, "uh yeah, hey."

"i can totally pick you up if you just text me your address." she unlocked her phone and opened contacts, then held it out towards me.

"oh thanks!" i said as i started typing my name and number into her phone.

i texted myself from maddy's phone and gave it back to her, then pulled out my own phone and texted my address to her number.

"cool," she looked at her phone, then put it in her pocket, "i'll text you when i'm at your place." she smiled and walked off.

i grabbed my backpack and closed my locker. i walked out of school thinking about a kid in my trig class that i was talking to. he told me i shouldn't associate myself with 'maddy's group'. he said maddy was a bitch, but it doesn't seem like that to me. i mean, she's literally giving me a ride when she hardly knows me.

"where are you even going?" jess walked into my room.

"..nowhere." i zipped my makeup bag closed.

"then, why are you dressed like that?" she gestured towards my outfit.

   "i'm going out."

"are you going to nate jacob's party?"

"how do you know about that?" i raised an eyebrow at her.

"um, literally everyone at school is talking about it." she started, "i was thinking about going too."
