(Interlude: Lord Bliss)

His eyes were as dark as the mortal blood on his smooth, pale skin. Patience, Bliss told himself as he paced back and forth in his accursed prison. Wait for your followers to release you. Then you can have your revenge on the gods.

Lord Bliss hears laughter again and growls.

"Fools," he grumbles viciously. "Once I am out of this foresakened place, it will be the last breath each one of them will have."

The ancient god shook his head furiously.

"The prophecy won't ever happen, not as long as I am still alive. That girl the gods blessed all those years ago won't have a chance against my son Vincent. He is much too powerful now."

He grins, pleased that thing are going according to plan.

Nothing could stop him now.

I laugh as I beat Vincent to second period. I turn around to see him standing right in front of me. I try not to blush.

"Next time, you won't be so lucky Alaina," Vincent tells me jokingly.

"I bet you won't," I say as I walk over to my band locker.

"You think I can't run faster than you?" he asks, leaning against the wall of the room.

I shrug, too lazy to argue with him right now.

"Are you by any chance on the track team?" Vincent says to me as I grab my clarinet case from my locker.

"Yeah. But why do you want to know? You are already on the football team, and track won't make your extra curricular activities any easier on yourself. I learned that the hard way."

He laughs as he gets his bassoon from the other room.

"Trust me, I can multi-task pretty well," Vincent states as he sits down in the row behind me.

I just smile and shake my head.

"Boys always think that they can do everything," I mutter as Mr. Seeder steps up to the podium.

"I heard that Alaina," he whispers to me.

(Interlude- the gods: Mt. Olympus)

Persephone looks out into the distance, blocking out everyone else. She did not want to listen to Demeter or Zeus talking about the young girl. Alaina Smith. Persephone repeats the girl's name in her head. If only Alaina knew what she's going to up against, then she could be aware of her destiny.

Persephone balls up her fists as she remembers the argument between her and her uncle the other day.

"Why can't I go see her?" Persephone snapped at Zeus angrily.

His face starts to darken, fury in his eyes.

"Your mother and I have already told you that you could not go down to the mortal world to visit your daughter," he states coldly.

Persephone felt her heart shatter into a million pieces as each word slaps her in the face.

"I hate you!" She screams at him. "You never let me do anything!"

Alaina's mother storms off before Zeus could say another word.

Tears start to form in her eyes as Persephone silently moved towards the gardens. She had loved her daughter, even though Demeter forced her to send Alaina to the mortal world when she was only two years old. Persephone had cried for months, never letting anybody but Athena and Aphrodite near her. Her two best friends. They had been through so much together that it was hard to keep them apart.

The goddess sees Hera and Athena in the gardens and smiles slightly, not wanting them to see how miserable she was.

I grab my bag and sprint out of the band room, not waiting up for Vince. Sara waves over to me from across the hallway, a smirk on her face. Oh crap, I groaned to myself. She saw me with Vincent earlier. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

Pushing myself through the wave of students rushing out of the other classes, I somehow make it over there without becoming a sardine in a school of tuna.

"Hey Ali," Sara says to me as I look around myself.

"Hey Sara," I replied, regretting what was going to be coming next.

She smiles innocently.

"So, what is the new guy like?" I expected that question.

I shrug.

"Vince is okay," I say casually. "Other than him being in all of my honors classes. He isn't like Jason or Lynx, if that's what you're thinking."

Sara rolls her eyes.

"Okay, Ms. Obvious," she says sarcastically. "Let's cut to the chase. Do you like him, or does he like you?" I did not expect her to ask me that.

I rub my neck nervously.

"I don't know," I say truthfully. "He seemed amused every time he embarrasses me."

Sara bursts out laughing.

"He totally has a crush on you," she says.

My face flushes a deep red.

"We are just friends, Sara," I say quickly, hoping that Vincent doesn't appear out of nowhere.

She grins at me mischieviously.

"You know you can't keep him in the friend-zone forever sweetie," my best friend tells me matter-of-factly.

I sigh in relief as I follow Sara and Jason onto the bus. I was so glad that the day was over with. Other than Vincent making me blush every chance he got, Sara had been pestering me about him. It was so frustrating when she does that. No wonder why Jason is to shy to ask her out.

"If I even mention a word to her about a relationship, I swear that I will hide in a hole forever," he had told me one day. "I like her and all, but don't you think that she'd flip out or something?"

I smile to myself as I look out of the bus window. Home, sweet home, here I come.

Yawning, I finish the rest of my English homework and stuff it into my book bag carelessly. I look at the clock on my dresser. Ten o'clock at night. Crap. It was past my bedtime, and if my foster parents catch me up at this time, who knows what would happen.

Shaking my head, I change into my pajamas, turn off the bedroom light and crawl into my bed. In just a matter of minutes, I was in a deep sleep.

Blood.

That was what the girl had seen when she had discovered all of the dead bodies.

She screams, horrified.

A laugh pierces through the cold night, the scent of death and blood choking the young girl.

"Stupid girl. Didn't you think this would have happened?" A harsh, cruel voice echos into the caverns.

She shudders, a shiver rushing through her frail body.

"Why?" the girl asks hoarsely.

A figure steps out of the shadows.

"Because, the innocents are always the weak ones."

She looks up to see Lord Bliss standing over her. He smirks.

"Join me, and you won't have to die like the other mortals..."
