(Wilbur's POV)
He tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for any news. The doctors had taken her to a separate room and wouldn't let him in. A nurse had been able to look at his injuries, but now he was just waiting.

His mind drifted back as he did to when he left. About an hour after he had seen the carriage roll away, he remembered feeling the ache again. This time in his back. It seemed to predict danger. Not around him though. Leaving his guitar behind where he had been trying to write a song, he dashed to the stables. Grabbing a horse and forgetting to leave a note, he had traveled as fast as he could, praying he'd make it in time to help her.

A shiver went down his spine as he remembered her state when he had burst in. The fear and anger that had coursed through him in that moment was unbelievable.

He perked up suddenly as he saw the door open. A doctor peeked out, and spotting him, she motioned for him to come in. The blonde haired woman led him down a small hallway to a room, empty except the large bed. She motioned with her hands, her blue eyes speaking of sympathy for the prince. He gave her a small smile of thanks before she turned away and left.

A little afraid of what he'd see, he approached the thin curtains with uncertainty. Finally, feeling a little braver, he drew one aside. His breath caught in his throat as he saw her.

Her head had a bandage wrapped around it. Her leg was in a splint. And her chest, which was rose and fell almost shakily, was wrapped tightly in bandages.

Wilbur shivered as he remembered the stone that had hit her. It probably could have crushed bones. Glancing at her again, he wouldn't be surprised if it had.

His hand found hers as he sighed. What was left for him to do but wait? When they said it was okay, he was taking her straight home. To her true home.

His ears caught the sound of footsteps as he played with her hair. He glanced and saw the doctor from before.

"The people are in turmoil." She said quietly. "With the king in prison and her in this state, the throne is empty."

"I suggest you find new royalty." His mind flashed briefly over the past events. "I doubt she'll want to rule with all that's happened." She was nodding as he said this.

"I agree. So do many of us at the castle. The council is already proposing to instate a noble family." (Y/n) shifted in her sleep, making the two pause. A smile graced her lips as she dreamt of something. "We're going to miss her. She always brought joy to our lives while he ruled." The doctor said quietly. "She'll always be welcome back as a guest."

"Thank you." He responded to her. "I plan on taking her back home when she's ready." He squeezed the unconscious girl's hand.

"We figured." She turned to leave again. "The princess should be ready to leave when she wakes up. Be careful though, she's pretty fragile." He nodded quickly.

"Of course! I'd never be rough around her." The doctor only smiled as she walked away.

((Y/n) POV)
She breathed in deeply as she waited for Wilbur. Waking up to him sleeping on a chair next to her bed had been rather a surprise. She smiled with a hint of redness on her cheeks as she remembered his reaction. The complete joy on his face had made her heart flutter. And now she waited for him to come with his horse. Her ribs were a little sore, as well as her leg, but she was willing to endure the pain just to get away from here.

She smiled back at all the people behind her. Everyone she had ever been kind to had made an effort to come and see her off. Niki, her best friend, had decided to come as well, at a later time of course.

The two girls hugged as Will led his horse over. The blue haired one waved as they rode away. The people cheered that she was finally free.

"We'll be home soon." He said as she smiled over her shoulder at him. He grinned as the horse slowly picked up his pace.

She was unsure when the fog had started. Was it when the forest began? Or was it when the sun got blocked out? It was rather unsettling though. Besides the noise of a stream nearby, all she could hear was Wilbur's breath and the horse's hoofs.

She looked furtively around, trying to see if the mist was coming closer. A quick glance behind her told her that Will hadn't seemed to notice the change of weather. In fact, he had begun to hum a cheerful tune. She bit the inside of her cheek as she straightened, fear embedded in her stomach. Her heart dropped as she suddenly saw a silhouette in the distance. The fog seemed to surround the black figure.

Hello, little sprite. She could imagine it grinning as she shivered. You seem to be a little off track. You're home is that way. It pointed back the way she'd come. When she spoke it seemed to echo.

"My home is forwards." Her courage didn't fail as the fog pulsed a deep grey. "I'm not going back."

A dark chuckle escaped the figure. Have it your way. The fog started to clear. We'll meet again, sprite.

She inhaled deeply as the sights and sounds of the forest came back. The sun smiled warmly down on the two.

"Are you alright? You look kind of pale." He suddenly asked as she turned towards him.

"Huh? I'm fine." She tried to reassure him with a smile. He frowned slightly as he put a hand on her forehead.

"How's your injury?" He queried further. She grimaced as pain spiked through her side.

"Could be better." She admitted.

"Well, don't worry anymore, because we're almost there. See?" He pointed in the distance and sure enough, there was the castle. It seemingly sparkled in the afternoon sun. "We're almost home."

"Yeah." She breathed out with a smile.

A/n: hm, I wonder who that creepy guy was. Guess we'll never know.... 👀 or maybe he'll come back. Hope you enjoyed! Thank you for all the reads! ♡
