(Philza's POV)
He sighed as he shifted on his throne. His oldest son looked more dignified then he did, but he couldn't care less. His instincts were driving him up the wall.

They kept whispering for him to spread his wings and touch the sky. Or talk to his beloved. Or stop ignoring the crows.

But his kids had no idea that he even had instincts, or a living wife, or the ability to talk to crows. And he wanted to keep it that way as long as possible.

Techno cleared his throat making the blonde blink quickly. He must have been staring off into space again. His crown had slipped a little with the loss of thought.

"Are you alright?" The pinkette asked as the final council meeting ended. "You've been distracted all day." The concern in his voice made Phil's instincts both suspicious and loving. He choked back a coo as he gave a little smile to the other.

"I'm good, mate. Just a little tired is all." He said, taking the heavy crown off his head. The gem encrusted ornament was real pain in the neck sometimes. "I'm gonna head to my room. See you tomorrow." He gave a little wave behind his back as his green and grey robes swept away with his feet.

"Wait-" But he was already gone.

A sigh finally escaped his lips as the door shut behind him. A long time ago, he had requested a room at the top of the keep. This gave him a taller ceiling with rafters.

He quickly threw off his cloaks, spreading his obsidian wings wide. A quick rush of strength brought him to one of the wooden beams. But the instincts weren't satisfied. They wanted more.

With a huff, he threw open the window as he grabbed his bucket hat. In a swirl of feathers, the blonde was gone. His lungs delighted in the cool air as he flew ever higher.

The stress that had built up melted away as he soared among the clouds. A smile broke through as he dipped into a curve, looking for his little murder of crows. He could already hear their calls as they approached.

Dadza!
We get the Crow Father!
Phiiiiiil!

He chuckled as he landed in the field the flock had settled in.

"Hey, mates." He said as they all squawked for attention.

The leader, Brian, hopped onto his shoulder immediately. And all of the crows were just begging for headpats and attention. But as he was giving them all the attention they wanted, he sensed a presence above him. A smile lit up his face again.

Simpza!
Hi, Mumza!

"Bye, chat." He called out as he launched up into the air again. They cawed their goodbyes as he flew upwards and stars started to appear in the evening sky.

Above the clouds, he began to skim the air currents, waiting.... Sure enough, right beside him glided a new figure. She was always the same as the full moon rose to shed light onto the couple.

"Hey, love." He said with a soft smile. One she returned as the cool winds held the two aloft. She sighed before responding.

"It's time we talked about the boys."

(Techno's POV)
He tapped his foot anxiously under the dining table. It was slightly audible in the silence. Everyone was far too aware of the empty seat at the head of the table.

He glanced at his siblings and their friends. Wilbur was fidgeting with his shirt cuff between bites. (Y/n) kept sending glances at the vacant chair. Tommy and Tubbo just kept their heads down.

The pinkette finally couldn't take anymore of the silent concern and anxiety. He stood, making the chair slide back. His twin sent him a questioning glance, but Techno just walked out the door. But something was up with Phil, and Techno was going to find out.

He marched up the carpeted stairs and down the hall and up more stairs. A sigh escaped his lips as he saw even more steps.

Why did he have to choose the tallest room? He complained internally.

But soon enough, he was in front of the mahogany doors that led to Phil's bedroom. That's when he paused.

Maybe he should go back. Phil could actually just be tired. Maybe Techno was just being paranoid. But his gut feeling told him it was something else. So he held his breath and opened it softly. No sound admitted from the dark room as he looked in.

"Phil?" He asked into the silence as the light from the hall looked in with him. "Phil?!" He called more frantically. He tossed the doors open completely and gasped at the emptiness.

The bed was completely untouched and his dad's outer robes were thrown on the floor....and the window was open.

The pinkette rushed to it and glanced around, worried beyond belief. But there was no evidence as to what happened.

"Dad?" His voice trembled in the silence that was suddenly overbearing.

(Philza's POV)
"Hm." A noncommittal sound came from him as he sat with Kristin on a cliff, somewhere in his kingdom. The stars sparkled brightly on the unlit mountain region.

"I don't know why Wilbur was chosen-" But he cut her off.

"It's pretty obvious actually. He's the most peaceful of the three and he isn't the first heir." Phil said, scowling slightly. "It still doesn't make it right." She sighed.

"I know. It's just the gods' excuse to use our promise. They wanted another person in their ranks. So they use the one we made." Her face was more passive than Phil's though. Then she went pale suddenly as he glanced at her.

"Are you alright?" He asked softly, squeezing her hand.

"Yes, but I think it's time you go home." She said as he became confused. But then it hit him.

"Oh, crap." She smiled sadly at him. "I have to go." He paused as he stood up. Her sad smile said everything it needed to.

"Go on. You have a lot to explain."

He gave her a kiss to last until next visit then he was gone in a flurry of feathers. He had to hurry because she was right. He owed a huge explanation to his boys.

A/n: It's a little different from the other chapters, but you all needed more context for the story. Also, I've been feeling kind of down lately so I don't have much of a one shot written for my other book. I guess I'm just overstressed. Well, see you all next week. ♡
