It wasn't unusual for the village to be busy, honestly, the fox boy would be worried if the village was quiet, but today it seemed a little too crowded.
Maybe it was because of the new school that was built or maybe it was because of the upcoming festival that was still many weeks away. He didn't care and just prayed no one stepped on his tail. He even asked himself why he didn't just travel on the house rooftops before remembering that he was picking up his youngest cousin who had insisted on going to school.
Oliver didn't understand why the small boy wanted to go to school, then again he also didn't understand his need to make friends. Even after two years Oliver still hasn't welcomed the idea of friendship outside of his own home, still actively avoiding having to go out into the village unless absolutely necassary.
Which is why he is quietly grumbling, asking himself why he had to go pick up his cousin when Mirabel and Camilo weren't at all busy.
He didn't hate the school, if anything he loved the idea of it and wanted to go tell stories to the younger children bit refrained from doing so seeing how many parents dropped off their kids, the teachers themselves being a social hazard for the boy.
It wasn't as though he never planned to make friends, he just had to find people that didn't call him a monster before Alma was arrested and someone that would give him the affection he desperately needed. He was touch starved, and not by choice either.
His family avoided physical contact, assuming he didn't want it and would hate it, possibly putting a bigger rift in their slowly mending relationships. Oliver on the other hand wanted to be pet and cuddled and hugged, but he was too stubborn to ask for it, a trait he clearly got from his mother.
Now, the school wasn't huge, there weren't enough children for a giant school, not yet anyway. There were a lot of windows, large windows at that, and a bell at the top of the school that one of the teachers would ring at the beginning and end of the school day.
'Dolores and Mariano could fill a school themselves...' He snickered at the thought of his once again pregnant cousin, baby number three.
Oliver stood by a tree, leaning against it enjoying the shade it gave him. He watched the entrance with little interest, not caring as much as he should have. He loved his baby cousin to pieces but he really didn't want to be there.
They sent the older children out first, most likely to make sure the younger kids didn't get trampled.
Oliver sighed when Antonio finally made his way out, standing straighter so that he was no longer leaning against the tree. He slowly walked towards the boy who was chatting away with his little friends.
He was about to open his mouth to grab his cousin's attention only to freeze as someone else walked outside carrying a small child.
Oliver watched the older male, watched how he cooed at the child, how he shifted his weight so that both he and the child were comfortable. The fox felt like melting in the presence of the older male, his smile alone sending his heart into overdrive.
Antonio was the one to drag him out of his daze, tugging on the sleeve of his shirt. He smiled down at the boy and crouched down, pushing the other male to the back of his head for the time being.
"Did you enjoy your day?" Antonio nodded, quickly beginning to ramble on about what he had done today and all the friends he had made.
Oliver listened patiently, his eyes darting over to the other male from time to time. The older male never glanced his way and Oliver began to wonder what his voice sounded like, would it be deep or high pitched, maybe somewhere in the middle.
