The room was pitch black.

You were wide awake in a sudden when you felt a hand crept up your shoulder.

What time is it? It must be still around midnight by now, looking at how dark the surroundings are.

"Y/N," a voice called out, effectively startling you for a while, until you remembered that you had been sharing your room and bed with someone for at least two days by now.

Stupid me, you sighed in relief. But the fact that this is still in the middle of the night irked you a bit.

"What is it, Fili? Shouldn't you be asleep by now?" you yawned.

His arms snaked up around your stomach, pulling you closer to him. You couldn't see him but you can feel him smiling.

"I was asleep, actually. But I just woke up and now I can't sleep... would you keep me company? And I have something to show you."

You smiled. You two have been together for three years by now, but that giddy feeling is still there every time you talk to him. And now those butterflies are back when you heard his last line. He really never run out of surprises for you.

"I'm coming, then," you replied, and a tug was felt on your arm. "Come here," he said.

You feel the warmth leaving the bed when he got up with a loud creak. Turning around, you jumped out from bed and followed him.

His footsteps lead to the balcony of your room, quite a hidden part of Erebor but still leads outside. Cold breeze flowed into your room when he opened the door leading outside, leaving your hair in an even worse state of disarray. You smiled and closed your eyes, feeling the chill wind carressing your face.

"I'm sorry I woke you up. You must be tired," he muttered with an apologetic note, his hand still holding yours. You replied with a quick peck on his cheek, making him smile from ear to ear. "You really shouldn't miss this," he said, walking outside.

You followed behind, and your eyes widened in wonder and awe at what is in front of you.

Your room was dark, but the cold stone floor of the balcony was lit. Hobbits don't know as much about stars and the constellations as other races do, especially elves; but you have had a great interest in them since you were a child. You have always thought they are beautiful, beyond measure.

The night sky was especially clear that time, so clear that the stars looked so bright and near, as though you could reach out your hand and touch them.

He chuckled, noticing the sparkles in your eyes. "I know how much you li---" His speech was cut short as you closed up the space between both of you, and your lips crashed into his.

"Never thought I would actually thank you for waking me up in the middle of the night," you grinned cheekily.

"This is... beautiful. Even the brightest nights I've seen in the Shire are never as amazing as this."

"Thank you," you whispered to him.

His arm brought you closer to him, and you sighed, laying your head on his shoulder.

You spent the rest of the night with him by your side, both gazing at the stars in silence.
