Except you did.

You were as dumbfounded as he is, his huge hat was flopping on the side of his head, and he looked frantic, even more than their previous meeting. You noticed an ambush going on at Bard's house earlier too, and perhaps it was the reason.
"Miss Y/N!" He called out to you.
"Master Dwarf, it seems that we meet again," you laughed. "Kingsfoil. Are there any kingsfoil around?" Kingsfoil? You paused for a while, trying to remember where have you heard that word...

Ah! You're standing right near a pig's pen, of course there's some lying around, they're usually meant for feeding anyway. Rushing there, you found a handful and handed it over to the dwarf. You were just about to open your mouth and ask him his name, and you noticed that he has rushed back already.

An emergency? Did someone get hurt? You've heard somewhere of kingsfoil's medicinal properties, and couldn't help but shake your head and pray for the best, for whoever got themself injured.

You returned home to your brothers and sister, with a chaotic mind. This is not the first time that you have met, and clearly not the first time you have saved him; in a way.

Laying down in your bed, you tried to think back of all the strange things happening in Laketown lately.

Wait, but haven't the company of Thorin Oakenshield parted just earlier today? Aren't they supposed to be already on their way to Erebor by now?

You sunk further into your pillow, puzzled. What could have possibly hold him back here?

Your line of thought was suddenly interrupted by a loud crash and the sound of people screaming. Flashes of orange and yellow could be seen from the window, and your blood froze.

Your siblings are still downstairs. You rushed to their aid, your heart thumping loudly against your chest and you prayed for their safety. Smoke billowed in the air, filling up the room, making it difficult to breathe.

You found your brothers and sister huddled in a corner. They ran to you immediately, and you can hear them crying. You were just as scared as they are, but as always you have to be the brave one.

Then a loud crash was heard behind you. "Run!" you ordered to your siblings. They immediately ran outside, and as soon as you were about to step out, parts of the burning building fell, now in front of the passageway.

There is no way out. You held your breath, and everything seemed to freeze around you. "It's okay," you whispered to your siblings who are waiting for your safe escape out there, with fear in their eyes.

"I'll find a way out. You go find help, you hear me?" you said to one of your younger brothers, the oldest from the rest. He nodded in response, tears were filling his eyes but he quickly wiped them away, smudging his face with dirt. Quickly he lead them away to find help from your neighbors.

The smoke in the air started to find its way to your lungs, and you started to choke from the lack of oxygen. You found no more strength to cry, and slowly your body lost consciousness...

"Lass! Miss Y/N!" a voice cried out, the same voice you heard two times before. You forced your eyelids to open, but they were just too heavy. Your plead for help only came out as a weak cry, before darkness filled your vision.

His face was the first sight you saw when you wake up.

"My name is Bofur, Miss Y/N. I'm sorry I haven't told you my name on all the previous occasions we meet," he said with his usual smile, but worry was still seen on his eyes.

You grimaced and tried to get up, but a sharp pain was felt on your arm and he gently pushed you to lie back down. "You're still too weak, lass. Better rest while you can. Your brothers and sister are safe, don't worry. I heard about you from them. A brave soul, your little brother."

Hearing his words, it feels like a huge burden has been lifted from your shoulder. You were so sure you won't have the will to survive if they didn't make it.

"Thank you for saving me and my siblings, Master Bofur. It means a lot..." "No, lass, call me Bofur. No need for formalities," he chuckled.

Something about his cheerful demeanor filled your heart with warmth, a rare thing to be found in such a chaotic situation. You smiled and laughed back. "Then just call me Y/N. I thought we'll never meet again."

Those words ended up being the start of a long and hearty conversation, with him telling you all about the journey, and you telling him about your life. After such a long time, you're finally able to feel happy and carefree again.

Until suddenly, the conversation was cut short by the rest of the Company calling for him. You felt a bit of a disappointment, but you know that he has to go.

"Until we meet again, Master Dwarf." He laughed. "I have made sure you'll be well taken care of, lass; you and your siblings. Until we meet again, indeed."

You know fate will bring him back to you again.
