Murky brown eyes. Dan couldn't look away from them, disgusted with how they dared look him in the eye. He narrowed his eyes and the girl quickly looked away.
He kept walking down the cemented path of the ghetto, passing starving children and dead bodies. He felt a pang of guilt for the children, but it wasn't his fault that they were Jewish. He kept walking towards the entrance, hoping for no more distractions before he had to make his report to the SS commander. He was almost there when he saw the struggling boy.
Dan would've kept walking, but this was more than unusual. Two SS officers, lower ranking than Dan, were holding the boy, dragging him down the path. The boy was flailing, trying hard to get out of their grasp, and whimpering everytime he was kicked in the side. This boy didn't wear the Star of David, and it was clear that he wasn't a Jew. Dan had gotten used to the Jews, and could recognize their "basic traits." This boy's eyes weren't brown, he was far from tan, and not to mention, his height was unlike most Jews. He was definitely not a Jew.
"Hey! What's going on here?" Dan barked in his most intimidating voice.
The SS officers looked up at Dan, laughing as they kicked the boy again. "We're taking him to the commander, for questioning."
The boy looked up after this, pleading with his eyes to be let go. Dan was startled at the intensity of his blue eyes.
Dan frowned. "What's the problem with him?"
"There's reports that he might be gay."
Dan's breath hitched. Gay? He was gay too. Since when was this a crime? Did his father know about this?
"G-gay?" Dan breathed out, uncertainly.
"Yeah, disgusting, right? We're taking him in, and if it turns out he is, he's getting deported." The taller officer chuckled.
Dan's palms started sweating. "Of course. But the commander's busy at the moment. I'll take him to the holding area."
"You sure? Yesterday you were going on about your higher ranking, sir. This is more of a job for-"
"I'm sure." Dan snapped. "Just hand him over and get back to your posts. I'll deal with him."
"Alright, alright." The short officer lifted his hands up in mock surrender. Both started backing away hesitantly, dropping the boy to the ground. He landed with a thud.
"Go." Dan emphasized.
The moment they left, Dan was on the ground.
"Are you okay?" Dan breathed out, trying to assess the damage.
"Yeah, 'm fine. Just a little banged up." The boy's voice was smooth, and Dan, for some reason, couldn't contain his excitement. He'd never met another homosexual. His eyes flickered from the boy's to his side, worry clear in his face. Despite this, the boy looked suspiciously at him.
"Why are you being so ni-"
"Shh. We need to get you out of here. If we go this way, we can-"
"Wait, you believe them? You think I'm gay?" The boy raised his eyebrow and narrowed his eyes.
Dan froze. "Are you... not?"
The boy swept his hair out of his face, indignant despite his position on the ground. "What's it to you? Why does the Führer care about homosexuals?"
"Uh, I just... I assumed that...uh... I don't know. I don't know what's going on.... are you, though? Gay, I mean?"
"I don't know why it matters," the boy pressed, his lips drawn in a line.
"It doesn't," Dan said hurriedly, "I'm gonna get you out either way, but you need to cooperate." He held his hand out, ready to help the boy up.
The boy studied it, hesitant, before reaching over himself and getting up by himself. Dan stepped back, trying to stand as proudly as he had started out this morning, and not show his disappointment.
"I'm going to have to fix your papers, unless you want to keep having run-ins with officers."
The boy watched his face intently, as if to figure out if Dan was bluffing or something. Dan had never seen this level of distrust, and he definitely had his share of experience, what with working in a ghetto. Then again, he'd never given a Jew a reason to trust him. This boy wasn't Jewish, and Dan felt no need to treat him as an unequal.
(A/N: don't hate me!! You'll realize why he's like this later!)The boy tilted his head. "Fine. But then I'm leaving."
"Of course, sir," Dan said as politely as he possibly could, stretching his arm to point out the way to his office area just outside the ghetto.

It had been a rough morning for Phil. He had gotten caught in a long line at the bakery, and then spat on by his old neighbors. They still held a grudge against him, due to his homosexuality. It had never been a problem before, until after Hitler came into power. Suddenly, it seemed Phil wasn't as normal as he hoped, and even his older brother Martyn treated him differently.
After the neighborly reunion, Phil scuffed up his new shoes, tore his shirt, and lost a button to his jacket. It was not turning out to be his morning. He sighed, holding his jacket to his chest. His mother would not be pleased when he got home.
This morning in particular was a special day for Phil. He was planning a walk past the ghetto, in order to try to wish one of his old Jewish friends a happy birthday. He hadn't seen Jörg in a while, and he really missed him. Neither of them saw the big fuss over the races, and Phil had discovered that Jörg was the only person he could share this opinion with, without being hushed. He rather missed the conversations he could have with Jörg, and was hoping to be able to talk with him. Phil was interested in ghetto life, and what exactly was happening. He didn't really grasp what was going on, or why all his Jewish friends were being moved. He was hoping that Jörg would be able to clarify things for him.
Needless to say, Phil's plan didn't end up working. Instead, he made the terrible mistake of running straight into an SS officer. He tried to apologize, but it seemed the officers were already looking for him, as they were tipped off by an anonymous source (clearly his neighbors) that a homosexual was "on the loose."
He was dragged right into the ghetto however, which made Phil a little optimistic that maybe he would get to see Jörg this morning.

Hello:D sorry for diving straight into this without much explanation! Imo author's notes in the beginning are usually long and kinda annoying so I just wanted to get right into it. Hopefully you liked it♡
Also: yes this is about the holocaust. No, it will not be completely accurate as i did not live during that time. If you're offended at any point, or you think a fact is wrong, just leave a comment and I'll try to resolve it.

I haven't planned out the end yet. If you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them. But if I get any hate, or any hate is directed to others in the comments, I will not hesitate to kill off a character in the end, and you will be sorry bc i have my eyes on a certain HOWELL. The hunger games have just begun. But on a happier note, thanks for reading:* I hope you like it, and I promise to interact w you guys as much as possible, so don't hesitate to comment
