Phil walked silently beside Daniel for a while. He wanted to talk, but he didn't really know what to say. He was just about to open his mouth and just start talking, but Daniel beat him to it.
"So... Philip..." Daniel dragged out his words. Phil smiled, because he now knew that he wasn't the only one that felt awkward. He turned towards Daniel, eyebrow cocked, curious about what he was going say.
"What's your job?" Daniel blurted out. Phil was amused, but confused. Hadn't he read his papers?
He stated this aloud, interested to hear the boy's explanation.
Daniel paused before speaking. "It seemed interesting, I wanted to hear about it."
By now, Phil was a little suspicious. Daniel should've known that he was a student if he had actually been examining his papers. Phil wanted to confront him, but he didn't want any trouble, so he acted as if nothing was wrong. He even smiled.
As he started talking, he watched Daniel's face contort into regret. By now, surely he realized that Phil knew something was up.
But Daniel didn't skip a beat. "Oh, uh, I was actually more interested in what you were studying."
Phil smirked, because he knew it was a lie. But how would he confront Daniel about it?
"Hmm... right. Well, I guess if you have nothing to do today, and since you're already a couple blocks from the ghetto, I'll tell you." Phil was hoping that maybe Daniel would go back to the ghetto. Yeah, he wanted Daniel to fess up. But he would rather not get caught in a mess.
Daniel looked as if he had been electrocuted. He glanced around, confused. Phil could see that he was lost, and maybe even scared. But he kept acting confident, and responded nonchalantly.
"Uh, yeah, of course. But I might need your help getting back." Daniel gave Phil a small smile.
"I can give you directions." Daniel agreed, and Phil smiled. He didn't want to walk back to the ghetto. It seemed like a bad place. Wait...
Suddenly, Daniel piped up. "Wait," he said. "You have to tell me about your studies first."
Philip smiled again. This may work out to his advantage. Phil was curious about what was going on in the ghettos, and who better to ask than Daniel? The boy in question beamed at him, making Phil much more confident in his plan. On one hand, he would finally get some information. On the other, he got to spend a little more time with the attractive boy. It was a win-win situation. Phil decided to proceed. He suggested a deal, in which he would tell Daniel whatever he wanted to know, in exchange for Daniel answering his questions.
And luckily for Phil, Daniel agreed to it with an enthusiastic "Okay!"
In Phil's opinion, this day couldn't get any better.

Dan couldn't be happier. Philip was willing to spend more time with him! And he seemed to have forgotten the ordeal from this morning.
Wait... that was this morning. I haven't eaten for hours. I need food. Dan's stomach agreed, growling loud enough for Philip to hear. Dan's face was burning, and Philip had started chuckling.
"How about we carry this conversation out in a cafe or something?" Philip said bemusedly.
Dan nodded his head, and was tugged by his arm into a small restaurant.
Dan was a little bit confused at how quickly Philip had found this restaurant, but soon found himself seated across from said boy, and instantly forgot what he had been thinking about. Philip swiftly pulled a napkin into his lap whilst smiling at Dan.
"This is my favorite place to eat, they're the only place that still has authen..." Philip trailed off, looking like a deer in headlights. Dan frowned.
"Pardon?"
"It doesn't matter." Phil mumbled. Dan's eyebrows furrowed.
"No, really. If it's important to you, it matters." Dan insisted.
Phil laughed slightly, shaking his head. "It was nothing. I've forgotten what I was going to say already."
Dan's face relaxed. "Oh," he breathed out. He started laughing too.
After the laughter died out, the boys sat in silence observing each other. Dan felt warm, and happier than he had been in months. He stared at the boy opposite from him. It really didn't seem like they had just met today. Hold up. Dan really needed to stop staring.
Luckily for Dan, a waiter appeared before it got awkward. He greeted Philip very cheerfully, and Dan could tell that it really was his favorite restaurant. He and the waiter were chatting like old friends. Dan could feel a little green monster waking up inside of him, but he brushed it off. He barely knew this man.
He was startled out of his thoughts when Philip started waving his hand across Dan's face.
"Hmm?"
Philip laughed softly, and asked for Dan's order.
Dan glanced at the menu, and picked the first thing he saw. He pointed at it, and looked up at the waiter.
"This looks good, I'll try it please."
He turned back to Philip, and saw that he was staring. He raised an eyebrow, and Philip explained that Dan had chosen his favorite meal.
Dan smirked, finally feeling in control of the situation. "I guess we're meant to be friends."
Philip rolled his eyes and murmered a 'whatever,' but Dan could see the smile threatening to show.
Dan's dimple popped out, and he couldn't quit grinning.
