⇀ you thought things were great. but apparently that's just you

⇁ angst

You woke up startled. As you look around, you realized three things :

1. You're in the subway

2. You managed to fall asleep

3. And you missed your stop by 3 stations

Seeing this, you groaned loudly. You immediately open your phone to research where the line would take you.

It was hard enough travelling in a city you're unfamiliar with and you just had to get lost. You tried to think about the positive and take this misfortune as an adventure. You even convinced yourself that you could find new places to visit with your girlfriend, Jisoo.

She was the reason why you were going out alone. Initially, you wanted to go out to get new furniture for the new apartment you would be moving into with her. But she said she had practice so she couldn't accompany you.

But as sweet as she is, she made sure that you were okay with going out alone, even convincing you to wait until she had a free day to go out.

As much as you would've loved that, you know that as an idol, there will always be something that prevents you both from going out.

Especially lately.

Sudden schedules, late choreography revisions, re-shoot for content, meetings about a possible new show. You kinda felt bad for her packed schedule. Which is why you're going out to check out the store that sell old arcade machines to get her so she'd be happy.

Granted, the store's location was in an unfamiliar area that you have yet to go to. But for her, you'd do anything, cuz you love her.

The door next to you opened and passengers filed out and new ones filed in. Before you could decide to get off, however, the door had closed and you just gave into your fate.

From your peripheral vision, you could see people walk by and taking a seat in the available seats.

As you lift your head to see where your next stop is, your eyes widen, your body froze and your heart dropped to your stomach. You couldn't even utter a single word out as the scene in front of you was too much for you to process.

There she was, the love of your life, sitting across you with a girl clinging onto her arm.

They looked picture perfect, you had to admit. They looked like any other couple but visually superior. Your head felt like it was spinning, thousands of thoughts intruding your head all at once. Mostly, it was convincing your eyes that you're seeing wrong.

But who are you kidding?

One look at her eyes and you know exactly who that is. That's your girlfriend. Shooting the girl, who should've been you, a smile. The same smile she'd give you every morning be it in person, by photo, or even video call. The same smile that made you go crazy over her. The same smile you fell for.

You wanted to stop looking but you can't. Maybe you wished for them to disappear because your head's just playing tricks on you.

Then she turned to look at you and both of your eyes met.

Her eyes widened and you could see her tense up. Her grip on the girl's hand seem to loosen but her grip on Jisoo's arm didn't. She seemed oblivious to Jisoo's state as she only kept rambling about the date that they apparently just had.

"I can't believe you took me to that place! I guess people were right when they said that they had the best pasta. They have a 2 months waiting list, how did you manage to get us in?"

You knew exactly which restaurant she was talking about. The same restaurant you told Jisoo when you brought up your upcoming 2 years anniversary.

The nerve she had bringing someone else there.

At least she had the decency to look horrified.

Despite not answering, the girl kept talking. You couldn't focus on her words, but a few words managed to slip.

She must've been the 'schedule' she meant. Canceling plans at the last minute, rushing and even leaving mid-date, she must've been something for her to sacrifice you like that.

You wanted to walk over and slap her, calling her out and scream at her and the bitch's face. You wanted her to know how betrayed you feel and how hurt you are, how pathetic and ruined you felt. You wanted the girl to know that she had ruined a person's life whether she's aware of it or not. You wanted people around to witness how a pretty face can be deceiving.

But you can't find it in yourself to do that.

Not when you know if you speak up, you'd be jeopardizing not only her career, but also her friends that you love and care.

You wonder whether or not they were aware of this situation. You wonder whether or not they had covered for her when you were texting them. As much as you're curious, you felt that one betrayal should be enough for today.

The whole ride was supposed to be short. But both Jisoo and you seemed to be stuck in slow motion.

It seemed like you both were communicating telepathically.

'How could you do this to me?'

'I'm sorry'

'Are you really sorry? Or are you sorry that you're caught?'

'Can we talk about this first?'

'What is there to talk about?'

'This. Us.'

'I think we've had that conversation and you've made a decision. It's just that I wasn't in it'

Without you realizing, the subway began to slow down as it halted to a full stop. The movement of the vehicle seemed to snap you out of your trance and you realized that you don't want to be in such a close proximity with her anymore.

So you grab your bag and stood up, almost stumbling down from the overwhelming feeling of everything. You tried to get out as soon as possible but there were other people blocking your way. So you were forced to stand so close to them, to her.

Maybe it was your imagination, but you could've sworn you felt a hand reached out to grab yours. But the line moved soon and you were able to escape without wasting any more time being near them.

It wasn't until you stood by the platform that you looked back, hesitating about what your next step should be.

She was looking at you with pitiful eyes, as if wanting you to stay.

But the figure clinging onto her arm only served as a reminder of how she had chosen her over you so many times. How she plucked you from your home, brought you to a foreign environment just to leave you so easily.

You hadn't even realized that you were crying until the door of the subway shut and the breeze hit your stained cheeks, bringing tingling, cold feeling to your skin.

For some reason, instead of using the opportunity to yell at her, call her a cheater, you found yourself throwing her a genuine smile.

But your heart broke more when you saw her divert her eyes to the girl she was with before the subway took off, leaving you standing idly by alone.

All alone.
