I'm currently sitting in my bed bored because I haven't been able to sleep through the night as of lately. I'm watching reruns of Girlfriends and snacking on cheddar and cinnamon popcorn. An unmatched combination.

My phone instantly began to vibrate. There better be good reason for this because I don't answer my phone this late at night for no one.
"Yes Joi? Why are you texting me at 2 in the morning?"
"Okay so boom, I was uploading a video on YouTube because my subscribers don't care what time I post as long as they're getting new content. Anywho, an interesting video popped up in my suggestions."
"Aaliyah Joi, spit it out girl!"
"It's uhh—It's Nasir..He's getting married and has a baby on the way. In the interview he explained that he couldn't wait to have his first child and how over joyed he is. The worst part about it is she's a white woman too! Like eggshell white. A whole colonizer."
It was like I felt my heart immediately sink. My hands began to shake. First child? Is he serious?
Where did I go wrong? Some times I wish I could just take it all back. l wish I never would've given Nasir the time or day but I look at my daughter who I love beyond measure and I wouldn't trade her for anything. The day I birthed her, was the day I was introduced to unconditional love.
It doesn't help that he's famous too. I can't help but to feel somewhat responsible as to why Lotus' dad isn't in her life.
He's a professional NFL player who plays for the LA RAMS. After Nasir graduated college he was drafted. Everyday I would sit and wait by the phone expecting a call from him like an idiot. I even kept my phone number the same for years. Once he left for college he just never turned back.
I eventually stopped waiting because there was nothing I could do. I can't force him to be a father.
