You woke up with a start. Again.
Sighing, you looked up to your right and examined the clock by your bed:
5:43 PM.
You had been in and out of consciousness for the last few days. At first you had just let exhaustion wash over you instead of making any attempt to get up and do something, because you were just in too much pain. But now, it was really because this situation felt so much like a nightmare that you were subconsciously hoping you would wake up from it somehow, if you just didn't acknowledge it. So instead, you just lay in your bed, not really getting up for anything aside from using the toilet.
Glancing at the empty bed on the other side of the room, you realised Ryujin wasn't in currently. In fact, she never was. She said she 'thought it would be best to give you space after that night', which you personally thought was an absolutely shit lie. It was blindingly obvious that she was so scared of you that she had been avoiding you every chance she got, which you couldn't really even blame her for. Thinking about it, you hadn't seen her at all in ages, aside from her coming in once for some book she needed. She had seemed terrified of you, her back against the wall, trembling, as she quickly grabbed the book from the shelf and darted back out.
You had missed classes consistently for....well you didn't actually know, but you also didn't care in the slightest. At first you were terrified that the teachers (or whoever the fuck ran this place) would punish you for being absent in pretty much every single student activity, but you had no strength to drag yourself to lessons, so you simply chose to lay there until you figured out what to do. And for some reason, punishment never came.
Getting up for the first time in probably days, you lifted your head off the pillow. It took far more effort than you had expected and getting yourself into a sitting position proved to be a monumental task, but you managed. Just about.
You were also aware that you had lost a lot of weight, either from your 'condition' as you now called it or that you were eating very little. probably both. Your arms and legs looked shockingly frail and thin, but you were glad you were at least able to move around a little.
Lifting yourself up and off the bed, you grasped onto the table anxiously with both hands to steady yourself. Walking felt like an alien experience, and you closed your eyes, concentrating on the feeling of cold wooden planks beneath your feet.
There was a knock at the door and you stiffened. It was only a matter of time before you had pushed your luck and they would come to punish you, but you hadn't expected it to be right now. Feeling your panic rise, you began shuffling away from the door. You watched the handle open almost in slow motion, your fear so great you felt close to throwing up.
Jaehyun opened the door, and looked at your now empty bed. He walked in quickly and scanned the room, probably in fear that you had thrown yourself out the window and fallen to your death.
He made eye contact with you after a few seconds of searching and breathed an audible sigh of relief. You could tell he was shocked at the sight of you which made you feel a little insecure at the thought of what you must look like, but you shrugged it off. You also realised you must appear pretty odd just stood there in the corner of the room, so you decided to say something
"what do you want?" Possibly too direct and not at all what you had in mind, but you were more surprised at how hoarse and wobbly your voice sounded. God, how embarrassing.
something that looked like concern mixed with pity was etched into his expression.
"Y/n, you need to lie down. You don't look well."
That made you feel even more awkward stood there in the middle of the room, but you were also too stubborn to follow along with his commands like a child, especially with how much you disliked him, so you opted for a sort of compromise by sitting in the chair by the table. He walked over to you and put a bag in front of you. It was obviously food he had brought over for you, but you had lost any feeling of hunger long ago.
You pushed the bag slightly to the side and looked at him. "You have to tell me whats going on. It's beyond the point where I can even hope things are going to get better and you hiding shit from me isn't helping at all."
He studied you for a minute and then leaned his arms on the chair opposite you.
"Y/n, you know I'm sorry for whats going on but I-"
"If you were even the slightest bit sorry you would at least fucking help me, but you're too fucking concerned with saving your own ass. I didn't know you were such a coward, but I guess I should've expected that from you."
He seemed taken aback and hurt from what you had said, as well as highly conflicted. About what you couldn't give a fuck, it was your life on the line at this point.
He ran his hands through his hair anxiously and after looking at you for a minute longer,he seemingly made up his mind and ripped a piece of the paper bag he had brought you food in, scrawling something onto it and sliding it towards you. You looked at him questioningly, but he only gestured at you to read it. So you did.
They're listening to everything we say. I cant tell you anything here. Meet me outside the metal containers by the sports hall today at 7pm. I'll do my best to fill you in.
You felt a chill go down your spine as you looked at him in understanding. Maybe he wasn't such a cowardly rat after all.
A/N: Sorry for such a long break! I'ts a shorter chapter but I'll be more frequent from now on :)
Vote and share as always <3 I'm excited for whats to come hehe
