Harry, Draco, and Daniel were bound tightly, their wands out of reach. Harry could do nothing but glare at the Empress, who wore a wicked grin as the boys could do nothing but desperately struggle against the ropes.
She began backing away, shooting red flares out of her wand at the ceiling, cackling as cracks began forming above them, travelling so quickly down the walls that Harry felt it might break his bones from the inside. Small bits and pieces of the ceiling fell around them, one nearly hitting Draco on the head.
"Oh, the mighty bringers of Light!" The Empress screamed, "You three? And after I've captured you so easy — I couldn't possibly grant you any mercy, what would the fun in that be?"
It was now abundantly clear; that she intended to dispose of them slowly, savoring their helplessness. She had captured the only ones who could ever free the Dark World and she wanted them to know that they had failed.
The Empress kept pointing her wand, preparing to unleash her final blow of magic — but Harry noticed a sharp shard of icy marble on the ground right in front of him. Pulling it closer with his foot, he grabbed onto it with tied hands, using great effort to cut at the ropes binding him, his hands bleeding from the sharp corners. Draco quickly noticed and gave Harry a desperate look. It was clear they didn't have much time left.
The Empress's dark magic whirled around the chamber, threatening to consume them. The palace continued to crumble around them as she kept shooting spells all around the chambers. However, she looked hungrily at the boys and pointed her wand at them, all sense of comedy draining from her face.
"You shall never see a single ray of brightness again in your life," she said, sending a chill across the room.
With one final, desperate effort, Harry managed to free his hands, cutting the ropes open, just as the queen began her incantation.
"Avada Ka—"
As the ropes around Draco and Daniel fell away, Harry pushed them out of the way, all three of them tumbling in separate directions. Her spell hit the very ground they were sitting on and had a force so powerful that a small crater had formed.
Wand in hand, Harry stood up with as much strength as he could muster.
"Stupefy!" he shot after the Empress.
Draco and Daniel quickly followed suit, confronting the Empress with spells, their determination burning brighter than ever. Three against one, she still managed to fight off all spells sent her way. The palace shook as bits and pieces of ceiling kept falling to the floors, the cracks in the walls and floors growing bigger and bigger.
"You can't fight this, Empress!" Daniel shouted, stepping closer to her with the spell he used, "'Three heroes appear at the world's edge.' That is what the prophecy states, and it is what it has been for ages!"
"You as a Lightner dare test my tale of time? You have been here for a minuscule dot in the existence of this world! 'A prince of the dark'? Is that supposed to be you?" she asked mockingly, fighting off spells from three directions. "If I perish in the fight to keep this world's order, so be it!"
The Empress stomped her heel so hard into the ground that she cracked the marble floors. She sent a wave so powerful Harry wondered if it were even real — the Empress's heel had sent fatal cracks through the flooring, and before anybody could react, half of the ground fell hundreds of feet below, down into nothingness.
Draco yelped as he saw the giant holes in the ground, the path to get to the Empress becoming impossible. All three boys were now separated, each on minuscule platforms as the Empress stood on the main ground by her throne.
