Almost every day, Steve and I would meet at the coffee shop. A conversation would rise up and we would sit there until I glanced at my watch, noticing that I was almost late for work. This morning seemed different though. As Steve sat down after his run, he seemed quieter than usual.
"Good morning, how are you?" I asked. It was the same question that I asked each morning.
"Good. And you?" His response was so quiet that I almost didn't hear him over the morning commuters.
Our conversation went on as it usually did, but he still seemed out of it. As I checked my watch and sat down my coffee cup, he started a statement. Again it got lost in the morning noise. I gathered my bag and coat and started a good bye as I stood up. Just as I turned to walk away, Steve grabbed my wrist.
"(Y/N), may I walk with you today? I have more that I must talk to you about."
"Okay. We must get going though or I will be late."
As we walked, he seemed to keep his head down. A block away from my building, he starts the conversation again. "I was wondering, if maybe you would like to go to dinner with me tomorrow night."
I had to think about what he had said a couple of timed to ensure that I had heard him correct. He must have taken my silence as a decline because he blushed and took a step away. I stopped and let the people walk around me. I stepped toward Steve and took his hand in mine. He took a tentative glance up at me and looked right back down.
"I would be glad to go out to dinner with you. What time and where do you want to meet up?" I asked him.
His face lit back up to how it usually is and his back straightened up. "I will meet you at the coffee shop and we can walk to dinner from there if that's okay? Say about 7?"
"Sounds wonderful to me. Now come on before I'm late for work." I said grinning at Steve, and we resumed our walk.
A couple blocks later, we made it to my building. I said bye to Steve and walked through the front doors just as the clock hit 9:00, cutting it too close for my liking. All day I thought about the date that I would have tomorrow night. Was it really a date? He hadn't said if it was or wasn't. When I was eating lunch, (y/f/n) texted me. It read 'Did you meet back up with your little Captain this morning?'
Of course she had to ask. I sent back a simple 'Yep' and finished my lunch. The day seemed to drag on and on. Ever half hour it seemed that the stack of papers only grew instead of shrinking. Finally, as I thought I was about to die of over working, the clock struck 5 o'clock. I gathered my belongings and grabbed a couple folders to work on at home, figuring I wouldn't be able to get much done tomorrow.
When I walked in the door to my apartment, (y/f/n) attacked me with questions about Steve. I sat down and told her how he had asked me out for dinner and she just sat there with a huge grin on her face. I knew that she was thinking something devious, that was the look that she always wore when she was thinking.
"My little (y/n) has a crush! I can't believe you are growing up so fast!" she squealed.
