«You can't be serious?!», Sōma stared at me in disbelief. He'd gotten pale as chalk as I told him about the Facility and Sora, shivering and clenching his fists. I'd only guess about the wave of feelings which broke over him and part of me regretted telling him the truth. However, there's now no other solution, because if I wanted my plan to succeed, I couldn't leave him in the dark any longer.
«I'm sorry for not telling you the truth until now, lying instead. I know I've made you worry.», I said and lowered my head in apology.
«No, it's ok. I already know, that you did it for my own good.»
His voice sounded weak and frail, so I wanted to go and get him a glass of water but Sōma hold me back.
«Where are you going?», he asked, stiffening and fear glowing up in his eyes.
«I just wanted to get you a glass of water.»
He relaxed and let go of my hand. «Sorry.»
I sat down and laid my arm around his shoulders and gently pushed him in my embrace. «The boy's staying in a foster home for now as you probably know already. But since that night he got into heat, even though of the medication, the other kids are fearing him. He can't possibly stay there any longer. Sadly, it'll be very hard for him to find a new family or orphanage because of his childlike character and his immature knowledge of this outside world. And his great fear of men, especially alphas is a big problem, too. I don't want to suggest us to be the perfect family this easily, but he both knows and trust me and I also think, you'd be one of the few people who's able to understand his fears and what he's gone trough. I think you and him are like a scale. You need each other to balance one another out.
«You want us to be his new foster family, am I right?»
I nodded.
«What about Shizuka?»
«Sora loves children. He seemed to have had a lot of siblings, which he helped taking care of.», I hesitated, «He... himself has also already given birth to a daughter. Sadly her whereabouts are as unknown as of the others.»
Sōma had froze in my arms. All of a sudden he jumped up and rushed to the bathroom. I chased after him, crouched down at his side and hold up his long silver white hair as best as I could. When I noticed tears, I gently caressed his back while circling my hands.
«It's alright. I'm here.», I whispered like a mantra.
After a while he gagged no more than bile and his body also didn't cramp as strongly anymore. But he's drained in sweat and his shivering had increased. I got a blanket, wrapped him up and helped him slowly going back to the sofa. I filled a carafe with water, got a bowl and helped him to clean his mouth.
After that, while silence settled over the room, I put off the lights with a remote, letting only the dim LED displays in the kitchen and the moonlight shine on us. I didn't know how much time had passed, when Sōma sat up in my arms and looked at me as the moonlight glimmered in his blue eyes. His gaze was strong and firm.
«Alright.», he said, «Ever since Nobuo-sans death I regretted not being able to gave something back to him. That I didn't thank him properly for everything he did for me.»
«Sōma– »
«No, please let me finish. If I really can be of help to the boy, may it be mentally or just in giving him him a new home, far away from fear and pain like Nobuo-san did for me, then it's good enough.»
«That's why I love you so much.», I said and kissed his forehead, «Then I'll prepare everything for the paperwork first thing tomorrow.»
Neither Sōma nor I ever had foster kids and normally the whole process would include way more time, government agencies visits and personal meetings. But thanks to the help from the foster home as well as the civil servant, who had spoken to Sora back in the hospital, everything went both swift and pretty smoothly. We agreed to follow some special and for the situation adapted demands, such as therapeutic after care and more frequent visits of the Youth Welfare servant and finally got the permission.
