Chapter 2, Moonlight dreams

I was looking outside the window, hoping something would end this sleepless nightmare. Even tho finally being awake is better then dreaming of the same dream again and again, I was tired. Exhausted even. After what felt like infinity, I finally got out of the bed, slowly walking towards the door.

Even tho it was really not these days, the floor was cold making me freeze as soon as I stood up. I quietly opened the door, hoping no one would be in the halls, and I was right. Everyone was asleep, making the castle look empty and lifeless. Before I managed to close the door again, I noticed light coming from under the door of the room next to me. Ithil's room.

'Should I go in?' I asked myself in my mind. The thought of having someone to talk with and not having to be alone pushed me forward to go and knock on her door gently. Not too long after, the door opened, revealing a tall Black-haired woman, wearing a hood over her dress.

"Yes Bethany?,, She tried to get my attention.
"I can't sleep and um...,, I started fidgeting with my fingers.
"Can I stay with you for the rest of the night?,, We were both quiet for a few seconds until she answered my question.
"I'm sneaking out but you can come with me if you want.,, She opened the door completely and stepped away, letting me in. I, of course accepted this offer, closing the door behind me.
"And how are you planning to sneak out? Opening the bridge would wake up everyone.,, I said as I was putting on the hood she handed me.
"You'll see, just follow me.,, Ithil opened a secret hall in the walls, took a lantern in her right hand and my hand in her left, leading me through it.

Her hands were soft and unlike mine warm. Not too long after we came to a wooden door, probably to the outside.
She opened the door and held it for me as I walked outside, closing it behind me.

We were on a cliff that had the ocean under it. It seemed dangerous yet so beautiful...
"What are you waiting for Bethany?,,
I started paying attention again, noticing that Ithil was already sitting in the grass near the end of the cliff and looking at the sky. It didn't take long for me to join her, still admiring the beauty of the view.

"I heard you talking in your sleep.,, Ithil spoke up after a few minutes of peaceful quiet.
"You sounded like you were about the cry. Is that why you can't sleep? Because it was a bad dream?,,
I was caught off guard by her question, looking for a way to get to a different subject. Her purple eyes were not looking away from me, making me nervous every second she was pinning me down with them.
"What about you, why can't you sleep?,, I tried to change the subject, hoping she won't notice me not being able to make eye contact with her or that my breathing was quicker then usual.

"Do I make you nervous, Miss Madden?,, I finally took the courage to make eye contact with her. Her amethyst eyes were watching me like I was her prey, and she was going to hunt me down, willing to do anything to get what she wants, and that is an answer from me. I already knew she can mess around with people, make them nervous, scared maybe, but I didn't expect something like that...

"You do...,, I admitted after a few minutes of hesitating. I couldn't keep looking into her eyes any longer and looked away, watching as the moon was about to start setting, making the sky look a bit brighter. She noticed my breathing getting heavier and finally stopped looking at me.

"Miss Ithil, I think it's time for you to return to the castle.,, I heard a deep yet sweet voice behind me, it belonged to a tall Black-haired man who could be in his twenties.
"Of course Asmod, we will be right there.,, He left without another word, leaving me and Ithil alone.
"Let's go shall we?,, She stood up and offered me a hand, helping me to get up before taking me back to the palace.

Since we came back into the palace, me and Ithil barely spoke. I wanted to talk to her but I was still nervous from what happened earlier. She was making me so confused, one moment she's sweet, the other she's cold and makes you wonder if it's safe to breathe. I hate the feeling, but yet again I love it.
