The ride to the Cloud palace was quiet, forcing me to concentrate on my own thoughts. Bad idea. Since I have vitnessed my father's dead body lying on the floor, my thoughts and memories have become a dark place. Full of stress for future and fear of meeting the same fate as my father did. Trying to occupy myself with making up different scenarios of how today could go worked. At least until we made it to the kingdom.
"Remember, this is an important matter, try not to embarrass me.,,
Thank you mother, definitely calmed me down.
As I send a murderous look towards my mother I felt a gloved hand placed on my shoulder.
"I am sure nothing will go wrong, the King and Queen seemed satisfied with our decision to come to the ball.,, Asmod said as he gave my shoulder a calming squeeze before retreating his hand back to his lap where he kept it for most of the ride.
As our carriage began to stop by the main entrance to the palace we saw the Royal couple greeting quests together with Bethany beside them.
"Welcome Scarlet. We're very happy to see you have managed to join us tonight.,, The queen chimed before flashing us a sweet smile and following us in. We were most likely the last to come. Which is not as surprising considering the Cloud and Griffin kingdom are pretty far from each other.
The main hall, where the ball was located, was filled with people. Everyone seemed to come from a very rich family, all woman had so much jewelry to the point it hurt my eyes and the men were holding their wifes close to them. At least some of them. The rest was eyeing the maids. However there was one couple that stood out from the rest. Not by seemingly being the richest, but quite the opposite. It was a couple of a woman with fire like hair and a man with black locks almost reaching his shoulders. They were dressed in modest clothes. Guests from the kingdom maybe?
"What is Adriana doing here?,, The Queen whispered to Bethany, sounding quite annoyed.
"I have invited her, she's by far the only maid who actually works and doesn't just sit around and act pretty.,, She responded with a calm tone, trying to hide her annoyance.
After that they both stayed quiet for a while before the Queen wished us an enjoyable night and left together with her husband. Leaving Bethany behind.
We both stood there awkwardly, looking around the room since we were probably the only ones not dancing. After a few seconds I could hear her sigh in frustration. Looking at her I have noticed she was already turned to me.
"May I dance with you?,, She asked softly and extended her left hand as an offering. What caught my attention tho, was her mother. She was glaring at us across the room, and her expression was definitely not nice. I wasn't surprised, it was against the manners for two woman to dance together (𝕀 𝕥𝕣𝕚𝕖𝕕 𝕥𝕠 𝕝𝕠𝕠𝕜 𝕚𝕥 𝕦𝕡 𝕓𝕦𝕥 𝕗𝕠𝕦𝕟𝕕 𝕟𝕠𝕥𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 𝕝𝕖𝕥'𝕤 𝕛𝕦𝕤𝕥 𝕤𝕒𝕪 𝕚𝕥 𝕚𝕤).
I gently took her wrist and brought her hand down, seeing the light in her eyes go away as quickly as it came.
"Your mother was watching us.,, I said, my voice barely above a whisper.
"But we can dance,, I started, seeing her eyes light up again. "if she doesn't see us.,,
She started looking around the doors that were surrounding the ball we were in, probably thinking about a way to get out without people noticing.
"Watch where I'm going, we should go by one for my mother not to suspect anything.,, She whispered loud enough for me to hear before nodding to me, making it seem like were separating and went to one of the doors.
I waited for a few seconds before going into the crowd scattered across the hall, making sure to get our of the Queens sight before making my way to the door Bethany has went in.

I watched as Bethany left Ithil on the side of the room, running off to one of the halls. I didn't want to ruin the chance of her loving again, but I had a good reason. We both know how it ended last time.
