A glimmer of dazzling light blinds me. All I can do is just stand there until it dims to a comfortable level as it lowers. I have no idea what is happening, but all of it seems a little strange, even for me. “Hello? Who are you and what do you want?” I ask in a confident voice, barely shifting even though I have this unnerving sensation in my body. “Are you going to answer, or not?”

The light lowers and slowly dims to nothing but a glow, revealing a small pendant. The silver wing, I recognise, but the burning amber gem in the centre, I do not. “Dangerous events shall unfold before your eyes, child. But do not stray from the truth, even if it means denying the truth.”

I gaze at the floating pendant and blink several times. “That... That pendant just talked...” I try to step back, but my feet are almost glued to the floor. I raise my hand to reach for the pendant, but it drifts out of my reach. “Hey! What the hell is this? Ty? Alaysia? Westley? Are you guys just playing a prank on me?”

“The friends who you speak of are not here.” The pendant interrupts me. “Soon, you shall know the truth of what is about to occur.” The gem begins to glimmer and change to an emerald green. “But, try as you may, you cannot change the fate you are tied to. Remember that, child...”

I watch as the gem begins to change colours until it sets on an onyx black, before the wing opens and the pendant flies away from me. “What? Hey, wait! What the hell is all this? My 'fate'? What's going to happen? Hey! D'you hear me!?” I yell into the sky.

Of course I am not going to receive an answer, it is a pendant...

“Yoake... Yoake... Yoake...” I hear my name in my ear.

“Yoake!”

I jolt up in shock to hear vigorous bangs from my door.

“Yoake! Get your arse in gear, or you'll be late!” Westley's distinct voice yells to me from the other side of the door.

“Shit!” I leap out of my bed and get dressed for school and trying not to over-rush otherwise I will end up making a mistake. “Hold on, West! I'm almost done!” I yell to the door.

I hear a slight force on the door as Westley leans his back on it. “You're lucky I even woke you! Hurry up, or we'll be late!”

I lift my head to the door, throwing my hair all over my face. “What do you mean we? You can go, I'll catch up!” I yell loud enough for him to hear as I tie my laces.

I hear no response. After I am done, I grab my keys and slam the door open. “All right, I'm ready! Let's go, West.” I look around the room to find it empty and I clench my teeth. “Damn, he really did go...” I turn to lock my door, hearing the tumblers click, and leave our dorm.

“Hey, hurry up, Yoake.” I hear Westley's voice as I close the door behind me. I turn to see him standing there, leaning against the wall with his usual scowling face.

I mirror his expression. “What the hell, West? Are you waiting, or going? Make up your damn mind, rich-boy...” I mumble to him as I walk passed him

As we start walking to class, we start up a light conversation. “You know, you've been sleeping in for the past few days. Is everything alright?” he asks me, still keeping his scowl glued on his face.

I turn my head to him and frown. “Yeah, everything’s fine.” I lie. “I've been having some rough nights, lately. It's probably due to the fact exams are starting soon.” I lie again.

Westley loses his scowl and gives me a questioning look. “I see. Well, you always had good grades, so there's no need for you to be concerned.” He answers.
