⛓ Erin's POV ⛓
I glanced in the review mirror to see Eve, Max, and Marlee talking and laughing. I joined in their conversation from time to time but I had something else on my mind. I looked over to Gene who wasn't engaging in any conversations but was instead on her phone.
"Hey Gene, want the aux?" I asked, picking up the black cord.
"Sure, thanks." She replied. She plugged in her phone and started to play a song.
Marlee started to scream the lyrics, causing Max and Eve to laugh at her. Gene, however, remained silent.
"What's up with you?" I asked her, even though we both knew. She picked at the skin around her fingernails before answering.
"Why did I have to come along on this trip?" She muttered, pulling her legs up into the passenger seat.
"I just thought you would want to come." I stated, turning my attention back towards the road.
She shook her head. "We both know that's not why."
I stayed silent, biting the inside of my cheek. I wanted to believe that maybe I was only trying to invite Gene so she could get out of her house for once. And maybe that was partially true, but I really invited her in hopes that she and Benny could work out whatever they had going on. Not only had it affected their personalities, but everyone else's around them.
"Could you at least talk to them?" I asked, not moving my eyes off of the road.
"I don't think they want to even see me." She murmured, returning her gaze to the window.
"But they let you come along on this trip, right? That has to mean something." I replied. I had to get them to talk again. I needed them both happy again.
"They only said it was okay for me to come because you asked." She argued.
I sighed. This was going to be a lot harder than I originally thought.
🎈 Ella's POV 🎈
"I fucking TOLD YOU TO USE THE BATHROOM BEFORE WE LEFT!" I yelled, half-joking.
"I KNOW, I'M SORRY!" Jaxx bawled. "I REALLY HAVE TO GO THOUGH."
"WE'VE ONLY BEEN ON THE ROAD FOR TWENTY MINUTES!" I shouted back. I dramatically sighed and texted the group chat.

"I literally told you to go before we left." Rowan said, shaking their head.
"Shut up, whore." Jaxx muttered.
"Hey now-" Vincent began, causing Rowan and Jaxx to laugh.
"If you need to piss so bad, you can piss right here." Harley said, wiggling her eyebrows and opening her mouth.
"That's KINKY!" Rowan shrieked, pulling out their phone to write it down on their list of weird things Harley has said.
"NO-O-O!" Harley sobbed.
I laughed along with everyone else in the car, saying something every now and then. Suddenly, Landon's car slowed down and they turned. I followed him into a gas station parking lot and parked.
We all got out of the car and waited for Erin to pull in. I watched as Dean, a few years younger than the rest of us (besides Kaden), begged Benny for some money for snacks.
They eventually caved, handing him a $10 bill. He ran over to Kaden and grabbed their arm, telling them to go inside with him from the looks of it.
"I'm going inside." Jaxx stated to no one in particular, walking away from the group and into the small building.
"You guys wanna get snacks?" I asked my group.
"Yeah, let's go in." Rowan replied, leading the way.
Almost everyone was inside besides Erin's group. I wandered the isles in look for some snacks, not seeing anything I particularly wanted. I settled on a Dr. Pepper, a bag of chips, and a bag of candy.
"Does anyone need money?" I asked.
"Me!" Jaxx shouted. "I left my wallet at home."
I sighed and handed them a 10. "Just don't lose it because I'm not giving you any more."
"Thanks, shawty." They said, taking the bill and walking back off.
After paying for food I went back out to my car to settle. I sat in the driver's seat, leaving the car door open to let the cool wind in. I opened the Dr. Pepper and took a sip, letting the burning sensation sit in my mouth for a second before swallowing. I watched as a few of my friends walked in and out of the gas station causing us to waste a bunch of time.
I checked the clock. We'd been here for a little over 30 minutes and we wanted to make it before it got dark. I got out of my car and walked back inside.
"Guys, we should get going," I called out. "Only have a few hours before it gets dark."
Some held up a thumbs-up and some shouted that they would be done in a few minutes. I walked back out to my car and got in, starting the engine. After several minutes, everyone got into their cars and we all started to leave the gas station.
I watched as Jaxx and Rowan bickered, Harley, Vincent, and I laugh along. The drive was gonna be a while, but this made time pass much faster.
Several hours later, we pull off the main road and onto a long dirt trail. The drive is rough and bumpy but begins to smooth out when we reach a large clearing. I parked my car in front of a large cabin, the setting sun reflecting in the large windows.
I looked back at those in the backseat and grinned. "We're here."
