🍄 Gene's POV 🍄

I stared down at Dean's unconscious body, then back at Evan's shredded face.

"Are you good?" Benny asked, Evan shrugging in response.

"It hurt like a bitch when it happened but now I just can't feel it." He replied, sitting down on the couch.

"We need to get out of here. Now."

We all left the house and headed for the gas station. Camden and Chevez hadn't made it back yet, which either means they got held up or...

"What's that?" Evan questioned, pointing at something up ahead.

He and Benny went ahead in case it was a wild animal, but their faces said otherwise.

"There's no time to mourn, we have to make it to the gas station before he gets up." Benny stated.

"Wait, look." Even muttered, stepping off the trail and into the woods. He came back with a sniper rifle.

"That's what he used to kill them." Benny observed, glancing back at the corpses. "Leave it here."

"What?" Evan exclaimed, walking back on the path. "We need this for protection."

"We can't just walk up into the gas station armed, we could get in trouble."

"You're allowed to carry, it's America."

"You can't just walk in with a fucking sniper rifle!"

"We'll leave it at the door or something, just-"

"Guys." I snapped, silencing both of them. "Listen."

It was deadly silent, but I had sworn I'd heard something in the woods. A branch, leaves, something. Then I saw him.

  He was already here.

Dean jumped from his hiding spot and onto Evan, trying to rip the gun away from him. Benny attempted to pull him off by his shoulders, but he threw his hand back and hit them in the face. Blood dripped down Benny's face as they tried to regain their balance.

I quickly glanced around the ground for something I could use when my eyes fell upon a rock. I picked it up the rock and walked over to Dean, the weight of what I would have to do settling on me.

Evan used the gun to keep him at a small distance, enough to keep Dean still at least. I lifted the rock above his head and waited for an opportunity.

Evan used the back end of the gun and was able to smack Dean in the face, giving me the go-ahead. I brought the rock down as hard as I could, hearing the familiar smack once again.

"We should kill him." Evan spat, pointing the gun at his head.

"No. We get to the gas station." Benny argued, wiping the blood from under their nose.

Evan paused before putting the gun down. We continued up the trail until we reached the gas station.

"Can we use your phone please?" I asked the man at the counter, praying they had a phone that worked.

"Sure." The man huffed, pulling a wired phone up and giving it to me. I thanked him and immediately called 911.

  "Hello?" I asked.

  "911, what's your emergency?"

Benny beckoned for the phone so I placed it in their hand.

  "My brothers a murderer."
