It's already been three weeks after the Yule Ball, after the fight between Cedric and Laura, not like the last time, she and Cedric haven't talked since then, Laura even doubts if that was the end of their relationship. Laura is preparing for the second task too, she wonders how well does Cedric know about the egg, did he get that right? And how is he going to deal with that? What is his plan? Laura wants to ask him but her ego doesn't allow her to do that, and she finds that Cho is around her more often than before, some people even say they're dating.
The afternoon before the second task, which is held in the next day morning, Laura is asked to go to Professor McGonagall's office, "Oh hear you are, Miss Swift," professor McGonagall says when she sees Laura comes in, "as you all know the riddle of the second task," she says to Laura, and other teachers that in her office, 'I already contact the merpeople in the lake, and all we have to do is take them there, they will fall asleep until tomorrow, when the champion save them from the water." She continues, "I already ask my students to take Miss Granger and Mr. Weasley, and Miss Delacour is on her way," Laura knows, she is the one that "Cedric would sorely miss," she is ready, "I'm ready." Laura says, "that's great, Miss Swift, and I believe Miss Chang might be in the great hall right now." "Excuse me?" Laura asks, Miss Chang? How could Cho Chang be the person that Cedric would ever miss, "is there a problem, Laura?" professor McGonagall looks confused, "I believe Miss Chang is the girl Diggory is dating to, that's what I heard." "Yeah, of course." Then Laura realizes, that's how everyone is supposed to think. Is that the prize of being the spy for Dumbledore? Laura wonders, how many times did her mother hide a thing like that in those years? Are those hurt as much? As Professor McGonagall says, Cho is in the great hall, with Cedric next to her, they are talking, looks happily, Laura doesn't want to go near at all but she has to do her job, so she avoids looking at Cedric, "Cho," she calls her name, "professor McGonagall wants you to be her office now." Both Cho and Cedric look confused. "oh, okay, sorry Cedric, I couldn't help with your task." Cho says to Cedric, Laura can't believe that Cedric asks for help from Cho, that was her job! "Good luck, Diggory," Laura says to Cedric when she left, and Laura can see she hurt Cedric when she called her Diggory instead of his first name. The four people who the champions seem as 'treasures' are all settled down that night, Laura is not very happy that she couldn't get the chance to take them themselves, because if professor McGonagall lets her do it, she will push Cho very hard into the water. The next morning, the second task, Cedric used the bubblehead charm, very clever, Laura wonders if that is his idea, or Cho's, and they are the first one coming out from the water, Laura saw Cedric pulling Cho up from the water, she knows that he is only being gentleman, but it still makes Laura upset, it was supposed to be her, not that stupid Cho Chang. Laura couldn't stand there watching anymore, she left, even she was supposed to be there, waiting until all the champion comes up because if any of them fail, that could be a serious problem for the others under the water. Laura enters the room of requirement, she doesn't know why she comes here, she doesn't expect Cedric to come, she just wants to be alone. But after a few minutes, the door opens again, Cedric Diggory, who is not in the Hufflepuff celebrating party, standing right in front of Laura, his hair is still wet, but he already changed his clothes.
