"The dark arts," says Snape in his first-class after becoming the Defense Against of the Dark Arts finally as he wishes, Laura is glad that he did actually, it is much easier to talk to Snape then. Not surprisingly, Laura can't join the potions class with her O.W.L.s result, no matter if she had studied or not, but she'd got the 'Outstanding' in Snape's new teaching subject, which is one of the few to Laura. "are many, varied, ever-changing, and eternal. Fighting them is like fighting a many-headed monster, which, each time a neck is served, sprouts a head even fiercer and cleverer than before. You are fighting that which is unfixed, mutating, indestructible." Laura had never been so focusing in Snape's class, she catches every single word he said carefully, she wonders what she can learn from Snape in this class, because of the experiences of years, Laura is sure that Snape must know things that Laura doesn't know, although she doubts Snape could teach those in class. "...you are, I believe, complete novices in the use of nonverbal spells. What is the advantage of a nonverbal spell?" That's interesting, Laura had never performed a nonverbal spell before, it's not she is unavailable to do that, but she had never thought of it. However, in the past few months, she saw Voldemort perform it several times, by killing people. "Very well, Miss Granger?" "Your adversary has no warning about what kind of magic you're about to perform, which gives you a split-second advantage." "An answer copied almost word for word from The Standard Book of Spells, Grade Six," Snape says coldly, Laura sees Hermione's face turn pick when Snape mocks. It's been a while since the last talk, almost two years. Hermione and Laura were friends, secretly but good friends, however because of the situation she is facing now, and in the future, Laura has to stay away from her. "But correct in essentials. Yes, those who progress to using magic without shouting incantations gain an element of surprise in their spell-casting. Not all wizards can do this, of course; it is a question of concentration and mind power which some lack." Snape pauses, "you will now divide into pairs, one partner will attempt to repel the jinx in equal silence. Carry on." Laura has no choice but to be in the group with Pansy Parkinson. Draco is still acting like he doesn't want Laura to close by very obviously. However, that doesn't mean she could stand Pansy annoying and mocking her, so Laura decides to try one spell, "Mimble Wimble!" Laura says in her mind, didn't make a sound, and her tongue-tying curse is working, and Pansy doesn't look like she can repel it at all, so that saves a lot of time and energy for Laura, standing there and laughing at Pansy, who is almost crying. Laura notices Snape is walking to the pair of Ron Weasley and Harry Potter. "Not again," Laura whispers, she knows Snape hates Potter, that's why he keeps finding trouble with him since they were only first year. "Pathetic, Weasley, here, let me show you..." However, Laura doesn't seem to disapprove of the drama. "protego!" Laura hears Potter shouting when he isn't supposed to make a sound, his shield charm so strong due to he was shouting it, Snape knocks off the balance and hits a desk in front of the whole class, which makes him unhappy. "Do you remember me telling you we are practicing nonverbal spells, Potter?" "Yes," Potter says stiffly, "yes, sir." Snape correct him, and Laura didn't expect to hear next, none of them did. "There is no need to call me 'sir', professor." He is done. "Detention, Saturday night, my office, I do not take check from anyone Potter, not even the chosen one." Says Snape. Laura thinks Potter deserves it, he should learn how to be grateful, since Snape protects him for so many years, although, Potter would never know. In the afternoon, Laura went to the library, when Hermione, Potter, Weasley, and Draco were all in the potion class, that's the only time Laura can go reading without meeting Hermione, thanks for her 'poor' O.W.L.s result.
