{okay guys. This is where shit gets real. It's pretty emotional so I'm just warning you. Thanks for reading this far 😊😊}
I was so into the hug that I didn't hear the footsteps approaching. "Simone, I'm really sorry-." Glenn walked around the corner then froze. "Um, hey. Who is this?" He asked pointing to Luke. I could have made the situation a lot worse but I didn't have enough time to.
Luke laughed then pulled Glenn in for a bear hug. "Glenn Lay! Wow you've grown! Guess that's what football does for you." When Luke released him Glenn did an awkward smile like a child would with an unknown family member. "So I noticed you didn't marry my sister yet. What are you waiting for?"
Glenn's eyes lit up and he smiled. "Luke, it's been years man! How did you find us? For a second I thought you were just some random nigga in my house." He smiled then noticed me glaring at him. "Our house." Glenn looked at me and smiled.
Luke just laughed. "You guys need to visit Dayton soon. Everyone misses y'all." He said while looking through the cabinets. Glenn and I just watched him. When Luke finally found the Oreo cookies he took a hand full. "But whatever makes you guys happy." He shrugged.
I heard footsteps coming from upstairs. Glenn and I made eye contact and I could tell that he was thinking the same thing as me. Oh shit! A couple of seconds later Whitney came into the kitchen. "Okay so I was thinking we could have pasta for dinner but then I felt like steak sooooooooo..." Whitney stared at Luke.
The whole kitchen got quiet. Luke, Glenn and I stared at Whitney while Whitney glared at Luke. When he opened his mouth Whitney raised her hand to shut him up. "Pasta or steak? It's my turn to cook but I want you guys to pick because I just don't care." She went on.
Oh shit. She's gone crazy. I awkwardly smile while watching her walk toward the fridge. She just continued to act like Luke wasn't there. Finally Luke cleared his throat. I looked at him shocked. Oh don't do it. "Whitney, why don't we-?" Oh my god!
Whitney slammed the refrigerator door shut. "Don't you dare talk to me! You have the audacity to come to my house?" She looked at Glenn and me. "Our house?" She corrected herself. "You go missing for years. Not a single call or a letter and suddenly you come back and act like nothing happened?! You are a bastard and I want you out. Now!" She yelled.
I was shocked when Luke didn't move. "Whitney, we need to talk." He said seriously. Whitney groaned then tried to leave. "No, I'm not letting you leave that easily." He grabbed her arm and she pulled away. "You don't think I feel bad about what happened?! It's no ones fault and yet you act like I'm the bad guy!" I smack my forehead. Luke, no!
The last thing I expected was for Whitney to laugh. "Bullshit! You left me!" Whitney's breath started to quicken. "I understand losing the baby was terrible but it didn't only affect you! I lost a child too!" She glared at him then looked at Glenn and me. "I'm not talking about this. Not today, not ever." She growled then walked away.
I looked at Luke then went after Whitney. She rushed out of the house but I was able to catch up with her. "Whitney, wait!" I ran in front of her and she groaned. She didn't walk away but she couldn't stand still. "I don't understand this! I thought that you walked out on him before the wedding but changed your mind-" Whitney stared at me in shock. Oh, I fucked up.
She chuckled then massaged the back of her neck. "Did he tell you that? And you believed that?!" Glenn and Luke rushed out of the house. "You," Whitney said pointing to Luke. "You lying, disrespectful, evil-!"
Suddenly Whitney stopped talking then walked into the house. Slowly we followed her and closed the door. "Asshole!" She yelled as soon as the door was closed. We stared at her confused. "What happens in this house stays in this house. I don't want the whole world knowing my fucking business. You tell Simone the truth right now!" I looked at Luke and he shamefully looked away from me.
Again Whitney laughed. "Didn't know how much of a bitch you were until today. I thought it two years ago but wow." She smiled then sat down on the edge of the hallway table. "Please, tell everyone what happened two years ago. This time the truth. Story time everyone." She crossed her legs and watched Luke. It's official. Whitney has finally snapped.
Luke sighed. "Fine Whitney! I admit it! After your miscarriage I lost it. We were both so excited but then everything went down hill. I blamed you, I blamed myself, I blamed anyone I could but that didn't help! Then I started thinking. 'Am I marrying Whitney because she was pregnant with my child?'" The smile slowly left Whitney's face.
"After that... I was gone. Before I could even think more about it I was called back into the Army and I took that opportunity. Whitney, I was young and stupid. I was in pain." Luke sighed then furiously rubbed his eyes. That's the one thing I remember most about Luke. He never liked or knew how to show his feelings. "I lost my first child!"
Whitney raised her hand to silence him. Slowly she grabbed the bowl of plastic fruit we had on the hallway table. "We lost a child! You and me!" She hurled a plastic apple at his chest. "Did you even think about me?!" An orange flew at Luke's head but he ducked in time. "Do you know how long I spent in therapy after Glenn found me in the bathroom?! Do you even care?" Soon there was no more plastic fruit and Whitney was breathing heavily.
Glenn found her? What is she talking about? "I tried to kill myself. Glenn stopped me before I could finish. Do you want to know the worst part? Out of all of this?" She wiped her face before continuing. "You lied to Simone and said I left you. And you believed him." I looked away.
I couldn't face her anymore. "The men I trusted most in my life has hurt me." She said more to herself. "Now you listen to me. The only reason I haven't killed you yet is because you're Simone's brother but don't look at me, say my name, or even think of me again. You're dead to me." And with that she rushed out of the front door.
I quickly looked at Glenn, Luke, then at the door. Luke reached for my hand but I pulled away. I'll deal with you later. I ran out of the door and caught up to her as she was putting the key in the ignition to her car. "Whitney, please don't leave! We have to talk!" She glared at me before speeding off.
I stood there for a minute then went back into the house. Luke opened his mouth to speak but I grabbed his shirt and pushed him against the wall. "If anything happens to Whitney I will never forgive you!" I pulled my fist back and he stared at me in shock.
Don't do it Simone. I have to find Whitney. Slowly my fist landed on his chest. I sighed then grabbed my keys. On my way to the car I felt a sharp pain in my abdomen. I touched my stomach and saw blood on my fingers. No, I have to find Whitney. She could hurt herself. This is all my fault! Everything went black then I passed out.
