It was the day before Ziggy's twelve birthday, however no one knew about it. She would of rather spent it forgetting that it was her birthday as it was the main holiday her mother would try her best on. She kept on replaying her last birthday in her head. It had just been Mary's birthday, hers was the sixteenth, the girls had done a big surprise where she had cake and presents it was really nice. Her mum and dad had gave her more clothes, makeup and accessories!

"Happy birthday my Ziggy." Isabelle said. That was her mums name, Isabelle. It was a also Ziggy's middle name and apparently her great-grandmothers name too. "I think we should go to the shops and get ya a cake!"
"Really!" Ziggy jumped out of bed excited as ever. "I know it isn't much, and I can't get you much but you deserve it." Her mum kissed Ziggy on the cheek. "Mum it's alright maybe next year!"Ziggy full knew that next year would of been the same, well if her mum didn't die and Ziggy never went to Hogwarts.

Ziggy decided to put her favourite clothes on, she got out her way oversized mid-blue denim jeans (which was her mother's old ones) and a black turtle neck on. The jeans were way too big, she used a shoe lace as a belt and had to cuff them over and over, though her mother wasn't tall herself, she stood around 5'4. She also grabbed her grey knitted jumper to throw on top was it was getting breezy out there.
"I'm all dressed mum! I'm ready to go!"  She raced downstairs into the kitchen. "Mum?" She yelled.
"Here my sweet Ziggy." Ziggy turned to face her mum. She held out a necklace, it was silver and thin, at the end of it it had a silver coffee bean. "You know this had been in my family for a long time." Isabelle said. Ziggy nodded straight away. "I want you to have it. Your old enough and mature enough to keep it safe."
"Mum you don't have to- it's yours and it's your nice things." Ziggy rejected.
"Ziggy. You know I have a few jewellery things, I have silver anyway. I have my bangles and my rings, my earring, hoops." She said "I want you to have it, any my jewellery will be yours too one day. You know where it all is."

"Thank you so much, your the best mum in the world." She clung onto her mum.

She snapped into reality, holding and playing with  her necklace. "Ziggy!" Marlene called.
"ay?" Ziggy shook her head.
"It's your turn in the bloody bathroom, I've been calling for five minutes!" Marlene complaint. Lily and Alice was at the greenhouse to look and study the plants for the herbolgy test they had tomorrow. Mary and Dorcas was at the common room, Mary thought it would be good to interact with everyone. Marlene knew it was a Sunday therefore the next day was a Monday so she needed sleep else she would not get up at all.

Ziggy made her way into the bathroom and turned on the shower tap. Once she was it she went blank again, going back a year.

She was at the corner shop and her mother found a cake that was a day out of date yet it was in good condition. It was a vanilla cake with some frosting on top and rainbow sprinkles. "Thank you so much mum! I love you."
"I love you too." She kissed her daughter on top of her head.
Ziggy's mum had two forks in her bag and a match. (Not a candle match, a regular one) they sat in the park, eating the most delicious cake Ziggy had tried. She had only had cake once or twice in her life. Isabelle and her managed to get a tray of cupcakes two years ago. However Ziggy loved the idea of having cake she would rather her mum save the money she had worked hard for. Her mum was a waitress, in a diner a couple blocks away from the house, normally during the shifts Ziggy went with her, when it got late she just slept on one of the booths but during the day Ziggy might of just one school or just join her mum.
They sat in the park eating cake and having fun, playing games like it. Once it was time to go Ziggy and her mum got home, the house was still quiet. Ziggy ran to her room to place her jumper on her mattress that was on the floor that was her bed. And she ran down stairs, she walked slowly in the hallway as she heard commission in the kitchen at the end. Her father was home, he was yelling at her mum, he was angry and nasty. As what Ziggy could see, he grabbed her arm tightly.
"Your hurting me!" Isabelle screamed. "Get off."
"You fucking bitch, you think I wouldn't know what you were doing today? Wasting the money on her instead of giving it to me! Give me the money." He spat. His word were slurring as he was under the influence of his usual, alcohol, and many drugs.
"Don't you think you've had enough?" Isabelle screamed back. However he didn't like her speaking back, he was in the nasty usual state and about to do what he usually did to his family. He had his fist clenched he went to hit Isabelle in the face when Ziggy screamed "NO!" In fear. The fact was that wasn't the first time for her or Ziggy herself. "You fucking brat." He spat, back-handing his daughter in the face. Her face felt hot and it ached, her right cheek was bright red, her mum looked just as angry as that he did. She had never stood up for herself when it came to herself yet when it Ziggy she would she would fight for her life.
"Don't fucking touch my daughter, I'll do anything tonight, just don't take it out on her." She begged. He scowled at Ziggy and grunted then walked off into the living room.
Isabelle dropped onto her knees hugging her daughter." Are you okay! I told you not to get involved! Ziggy you know how he can get, please don't get involved."
"Mum. Mum! I'm fine, dad was gonna hurt you." Ziggy reassured her mum.
