It was the next morning, and Harry woke up crying. He had the worst nightmares he's had in a while. He dreaded his Potions class that day, dreaded having to see his father. Yet he got up anyways, got showered and dressed, and then went down for breakfast.
After breakfast he walked to the Potions classrooom. Harry sat down besides Lillian again and they started talking like nothing happened while taking their things out. After a couple of minutes of waiting, the professor finally showed up. He didn't slam the door this time, but closed it calmly. He automatically looked at Harry with what looked like regret in his eyes. The Potions Master proceeded to get the instructions on the board. Harry and Lilliana immediately started working. Harry added the bezoar and blood to the potion and started stirring. After a couple of more minutes of adding particularly gross ingredients, they let the potion simmer. It was a deep shade of purple by now, just as the instructions said it should be at this stage. After simmering, they added more ingredients and the potion turned to its final color: a clear white. At the end of class, their potion was the only clear potion. Everyone else had random colored potions. While Harry was turning the vial in, Severus said:
"Mr. Potter, please see me after class."
Wondering what he did wrong, Harry mumbled a "yes sir" and waited after everyone else had left. Severus went over to the door and shut it. When he turned, Harry was shocked. The mask his professor usually wore was gone and replaced by a look of pure regret and concern.
"Harry, please sit down." Severus said.
Harry noticed the use of his first name and was taken aback. What was going on? But he obeyed, and sat down in the chair sitting across from the professor's desk. Severus, however, remained standing. Taking a deep breath he started talking.
"Harry, last night I came to a very important realization. You are no longer Potter to me. You are Harry. I had feelings of pure hatred towards you. I bullied you. I apologize greatly for my actions. I was selfish, only seeing James in you. Only seeing what I wanted to see, I convinced myself you were just like him. But you're not. You're my son, and nothing could change that now. Harry, I accept you as my son. I want you. I will adopt you." Severus said with a smile.
"Really?" Harry yelled. Without thinking, he jumped up out of the chair.
He ran over to his father and hugged him. He relaxed as he felt his father's arms wrap around him in a warm embrace. Harry couldn't stop the tears. As Severus felt his son crying, he hugged him tighter, never wanting to let go. This was his son. The son that he bullied because of his selfish feelings. The son that accepted him as his father despite all of the things in the past.
"Thank you, sir." Harry said withought thinking, reluctanly pulling away from the embrace to wipe his eyes.
"Harry, you may call me "Dad" if you wish. I shall now go speak to Albus. Good bye Harry, you may come down to my chambers tonight if you wish. Lilliana will be there also." Severus said.
"Good Bye, Dad. I will be there tonight, I promise." Harry answered with a smile.
Giving his son a last hug, Severus left. He went to talk to the Headmaster. Due to the Headmaster's connections, Severus adopted Harry. It was official that same night. Harry, Lilliana and Severus all looked forward to the life ahead of them. The life that they would spend as a true family.
