Chapter 18: Face Your Fears
"He did what?!" Sammy exclaimed, leaping onto Katelyn's bed. "He kissed you?" she hissed.
"Yes!" Katelyn moaned into her pillow. "That creep!"
"Katelyn got her first kiss huh?" Jane asked, hopping onto her bed too.
"Did you like it?" Sammy asked, bending over Katelyn's curled up body. "Is he a good kisser?"
"I don't know!" Katelyn exclaimed. "It happened all so fast. I was just standing there and he just kissed me and then jumped off the edge of the building."
"You never did explain why he did that," Jane pointed out.
"B-because," Katelyn spluttered. "I got a note from Timothy Wilson asking if I wanted to go get ice cream-"
"What?!" Sammy exclaimed. "Katelyn," she said, swooning. "You're getting all these Guildford boys."
"Stop, that's gross," Katelyn replied. "But Derek found the note before me and wouldn't give it back. Then the idiot dropped it off the edge of the building and went to go get it. A normal person would have used the stairs but no! He jumped!"
"Wow," Jane said. "He must really like you."
"What are you talking about?" Katelyn asked, frowning. "He is just out to make my life bad."
"Oh come on," Sammy said, hugging her pillow. "He knew you would flip out if someone saw that note so he went to get the note even if it mean breaking every bone in his body."
"I hate him."
"Of course..." Jane sighed. "Let's go to sleep," she suggested.
"Sweet dreams about making out with Derek!" Sammy sang as she pranced back to her own bed.
"Shut up," Katelyn told her friends.
Sammy giggled and Jane hid a smile and she flicked off the lights.
Katelyn yanked the covers over her head as she got comfortable. When she heard Sammy and Jane fall asleep, she very slowly touched her own lips with her fingertips. The memory left her heart beating fast, making it hard to sleep.
The next few weeks of school were a surprise for everyone. Instead of typical classes, seniors got special "Seminars." No classes! Instead they all sat in the auditorium slightly confused. Miss Bates was standing on the stage with the Headmistress and several women in lab coats. They seemed to be talking quietly but no one could hear them anyways because the rest of the students were talking loudly.
Headmistress picked up the microphone and tapped on a couple times.
"Students..." she said in her serious tone.
The auditorium immediately hushed. Headmistress smoothed her skirt and cleared her throat to get everyone's attention.
"Today, we have a special event. This will not only benefit you as a spy but also as a person. We have been working on the equipment for this simulation for years and now it has been perfected. Miss Bates will now introduce the simulation."
Miss Bates was wearing a short black dress with a large white belt over it. Heeled boots made her walk echo in the room. Her fiery hair was loose and curly.
"What is fear? La peur? Paura? Angst?" she asked in different languages.
She paused for a moment to let everyone start to worry. Katelyn suspected they were going to try and scare the crap out of everyone.
