Walking into the training room, Callie saw a guy as Jace crossed his arms over his chest. "Jace, who is that guy?" She asked.
"That's Hodge Starkweather, our weapons trainer." He answered. "And, more important for us, a former Circle member."
Callie watched as a shadowhunter practice as Jace continued to talk to her. She looked at Jace to see his face wasn't that far from hers. When the training was over, Jace put his hand on her back and guided her up to Hodge. He looked at the blonde shocked. "Jocelyn."
"No." She said. "I'm Callie, but she is my mother, Jocelyn Fray...I mean our. My twin sister is Clary."
"Well, she was Jocelyn Fairchild when I knew her." Hodge tells the blonde. "And she was one of my best friends."
Callie nodded as she needed to tell him the truth. "Well, I hate to tell you this, but she's been kidnapped by some guy named Valentine and his men." She tells him.
"By the Circle, Hodge." Jace says.
"But that's impossible." Hodge says. "Valentine's dead and the Circle died with him."
Callie watched as he started choking. "What's going on?"
"I swore a vow never to speak of what we did." Hodge explains. "This is the Clave's way of making sure I keep that vow."
The blonde nodded and looked at Jace. "Is torturing him the right thing to do, Jace." Callie says as she looked at him. "Is there anyone that could be a help?"
"If the Circle is back and they've taken Jocelyn....our leader...our leader of the Circle was Valentine Morgansten..." he winced. "We thought he wanted to protect humans, like all Shadowhunters." Callie looked at Jace as they listened. "But we never realized the lengths when Valentine was willing to go...the people he was willing to sacrifice." Callie noticed him looking to be in pain. "Most of humanity would die if we carried out Valentine's plan."
"I'm sorry, but I still don't understand how my mother relates to any of this?" Callie asked.
Hodge sighed as he looked at the blonde. "Jocelyn was a member of the Circle as well."
Callie was shocked by this information. She didn't know how to respond causing Hodge to continue. "The import thing is that Jocelyn left the Circle. And so non of this even matters, because Valentine died in a fire years ago." Hodge says smiling till he started groaning.
"Hodge. Hodge." Jace says as he grabs him.
"That's it." Callie says. "We can't ask you anymore questions. I'm sorry, Hodge."
"Callie, we don't have a choice." Jace tells her. "You understand that, Hodge, right?"
Callie walked over to Jace and put her hand on his shoulder causing him to look at her. "Jace...is right." Hodge says looking at the two. "Valentine nearly destroyed the Shadow World and humanity along with it." Callie stared in shock. "If he'd gotten the Cup..."
"Wait a minute." Callie says. "Mom told me she hid something from someone. If it's this Cup..."
"Callie, the Mortal cup is the most important object in the Shadow World." Jace tells her. "Whoever possesses it can create more Shadowhunters."
"And in the wrong hands....control demons." Hodge tells her as he gasped. "If Jocelyn hid the Cup from Valentine, then she's in more danger than you can possible imagine."
Callie was shocked that her mom was in more danger than she thought. She looked at Hodge. "I hate to make you suffer like this." She says as she went to Jace's sighed and put her hand on Hodge's shoulder causing Jace to look at her.
Hodge looked at her. "I'm so sorry." He tells her. "Your mother was only trying to protect you and your sister, but mostly you, Callie." He tells her. "And now you must protect her." Callie nodded. "Stop Valentine...before he destroys us all."
Jace looked at Callie as she ran off causing him to chase her down.
~~~
"Callie?' He called out as she continued to walk away. "Callie, look, will you just calm down?""Calm down? Seriously?" She said hurt. "I don't think I can calm down. I..." Callie sighed. "I'm not an emotionless G.I. Joe...."
"What's a G.I. Joe?" Jace asked.
"Never mind." She tells him. "I'll tell you this, G. I. Joe is a solider who never experienced emotions."
"Like losing your own mother." Clary says causing the two blondes to look at her.
"You're right." Jace says as he looked at Clary. "I've never knew my mother.'
"Oh my god. Jace, I'm so sorry. We're in..."
"That's my point. You don't know anything about this." Jace tells Clary as Clary glared at how the two blondes stood. "You don't know about me, you don't know about my life..." he looked back at Callie causing Clary to glare even more. "...but in the Shadow World, no training and no plan gets you killed." Callie nodded.
Clary walked away not wanting to see Callie and Jace staring at each other. "So, we know that Valentine is back and wants the Cup, but for some reason he thinks my mom has it." She said as she walked to the wall.
"Could she?" Jace asked her causing Callie to look at him. "Have the Cup?"
"I don't know, Jace."
Jace walked over to her. "Look, Callie, you know about the runes. You've drawn them." He tells her as he put on hand on the wall beside her. "You...you know something. Think, please."
Callie sighed. "I've been trying, Jace. It's just there is this empty blackness."
Jace sighed as he knew. "Callie, your memory's been wiped." He tells her.
"There is no way that's possible. Is it?"
"Absolutely...if you know a warlock." He tells her.
"Okay." She tells him.
"You can tell a warlock when their hands spark...
"Dot, mom's assistant. Her hands had this purple glow when she opened the wall and my mom pushed me through and I ended up at the police station." She tells him.
"That was a Portal." Jace tells her. "Dot must have been a warlock. Only warlocks can create them.'
"So, you're saying if we find the real Dot, she could help us find the Cup and get my mom back?" Callie asked him.
"Unless she's working for Valentine." Jace tells her.
Callie smirked. "That's even better. Dot could lead us right to him."
Jace watched Callie walk away. He shook his head as he followed the beautiful girl. She was on a mission and she wasn't going to stop till she got some answers. A woman that Jace finds amazing and attracting. A headstrong woman.
