I groaned when a paw prodded me and I rolled over.

"Skypaw, do you want to be a warrior or not?"Croweye growled, frustrated.

I slowly opened my eyes and glared at him through sleep fuzziness.

"I'll meet you out by the fern barrier."Croweye flicked his tail at me dismissively.

I sat up and I pulled a paw slowly over my ear.

Then it dawned on me.

Assessment day!!!

I leaped out of my nest and bounded out the den, stepping on a few tails and stuff along the way. Oops!

"Skypaw!"Dovepaw and Lionpaw groaned in sync from inside the apprentice's den.

I smiled to myself as I sprinted over to the fern barrier, ignoring my grumbling belly and fur that stuck up in all different directions.

Croweye eyed me weirdly as I halted beside him, beaming up at him brightly.

"Skypaw, next time do take time to groom yourself."Croweye snorted and rolled his eyes.

I ducked my head in embarrassment, suddenly very self conscious of my mesy, ungrounded fur.

I glanced around camp. It was deserted. Nearly all the camp were asleep. It was barley even dawn.

Airstar sat still on the fallen log outside his den.

He watched over the camp was we all waited for dawn.

The sky turned a milky yellow as the sun started it's rise.

I glanced up at Croweye who nodded at me. His narrowed yellow eyes gleamed at me with pride which made me all the more nervous and all the more excited.

"It's time."Croweye whispered as Swiftwhisker and Sandfur emerged from the warriors den.

I ducked out of the fern barrier, glancing behind me.

Croweye watched me leave.

I disappeared into the thick trees, clawing my way up a large tree.

I sniffed the air. The wind was blowing downwind. Crow scent drifted to my nose. So did woodpecker.

I licked my lips and my stomach growled. Woodpecker was fairly rare for Cloudclan cats.

I clawed my way higher into the tree, pin pointing the bird before I saw it.

I knew I need to come at it from across otherwise the woodpecker would see me or smell me or even sense me.

I made my way down the tree, finally attached to the trunk straight across from the bird.

The woodpecker pecked away.

I didn't give it a heartbeat to fly away.

I jumped, twisting in the air.

My claws sunk into the woodpecker, deep into the trunk too.

I was hanging by my claws!

Panic shot through me and I flailed desperately trying to did a paw hold.

I could feel my claws coming loose.

I finally freed my front claws and dropped to the ground, landing unsteadiy. I grabbed the bird in my mouth, not letting it touch the ground.

Unfortunately it wasn't edible for I had clawed it with my claws when trying not to fall.

I sighed, feeling my confidence drop.

I buried the catch and kept going.

I caught a few easy mice and a crow before I headed back to camp, leaving my woodpecker behind.

I spotted Croweye sitting by the tunnel entrance with Blazefur.

I tried not to let my head drop in dissapointment but I couldn't help it.

Croweye gestured for me to follow and he led me to Airstar's den.
