The Exception

Chapter Three: Dress

His words lingered in her mind for a few moments with his hand pressed against her waist, she almost forgot how to breathe.

"Sorry..." he had muttered before removing his hand in a slow-motion, causing a gentle gasp to escape her lips.

"Sorry?" she questioned in an almost breathless tone as she caught hold of her surroundings.

A grin formed across the male's lips, almost like he wanted to make her squirm.

"Yes, my apologies Lorelai... but Miss Vickers, unfortunately, was very specific when she asked for Dr. Shaw and Dr. Holloway's presence" he stated, giving her a simple nod before turning his back to her and opening the door, disappearing inside without another word. She watched the doors close behind him, "Fuck..." she muttered underneath her breath, running a hand through her hair, unable to comprehend what had just happened.

She waited rather impatiently outside, pacing back and forth her mind still buzzing, her heart still racing. When the doors finally opened she looked over expecting to see David, she was practically dying of the anticipation to see him again but when her eyes met Dr. Holloways a soft frown spread across her lips.

"You didn't have to wait out here" he spoke and for the time being, she chose to ignore him, focusing her attention on Elizabeth only to notice the disappointment on her face.

"So... by the looks of it, that conversation didn't go too well?" Lorelai questioned with the subtle raise of her brow.

"Not exactly, no," Elizabeth responded walking past her, "Well- aren't you going to elaborate?" she proceeded to ask, beginning to follow them until Elizabeth had stopped to turn her full attention to her.

"She said that we are... just her employees and that we have to go by her agenda since we didn't raise the money for this expedition ourselves."

"What? But that's bullshit without you there would be no expedition in the first place-"

"That's exactly what I was trying to tell her," Charlie spoke up, starting to walk once more.

"Well, what are you going to do?"

"Go with her agenda for now and then once we find what we're here for... maybe she'll be open to ours," Elizabeth replied following her boyfriend.

Instead of following along, Lorelai stood there for a few moments thinking over her next set of actions... She wanted to have a word of her own with Miss Vickers but she didn't want to make things worse for Elizabeth.

She almost jumped when the doors opened up behind her, glancing back to see that David was quick to notice her presence.

"Did I startle you?" he asked, taking a few steps towards her.

"My apologies if I did."

"You know you apologize a lot?"

"Yes, well I suppose it's in my programming to apologize if I make your kind uncomfortable."

"You didn't... I mean, you don't make me uncomfortable."

"But I make you... nervous don't I?" he asked, approaching her further.

"No- no that's not..."

"Really? When I touched you earlier I could feel your heart racing, I bet if I touched you again..." he began, now only inches away from her.
