Chapter 4: The Mysterious girl
Somewhere in the forest, a petite young woman with a cheerful and optimistic personality was wandering around the woods. She sported braided bangs, and her hair was fastened with a pin. [1] Going by the name Ehiara, the eighteen-year-old girl was the owner of the light pendant. She was journeying to seek out the eight relic owners after her Spirit Guardian, Thiara, had introduced herself to her. Thiara had given her a mission.
Ehiara, it's time for you to embark on a journey to find the eight relic owners. These people hold relics that were made by the eight special magicians. The magicians were once extraordinary magic users who had defeated the demon army. However, D. Sareus and his demon army have returned and it is up to us to defeat them once more. This is your destiny, Ehiara. The pendant that you are wearing is not just a family heirloom, it is an artefact that holds great magical powers.
[This was the speech that Thiara gave Ehiara when she had left her village without any plans and was deciding what to do.]
Ehiara had a close-shave with the soldiers in the woods. At times, Ehiara wished that she had not left her village. However, she knew that it was something that she had always wanted to do. Even since she was a child, Ehiara was looked down upon by her peers despite her sweet and kind-hearted nature. As Ehiara possessed uncanny abilities which caused her to destroy her surroundings, she was called names by children. "I'm going to gather the rest of the Chosen Ones and defeat D. Sareus. If I do, I'll convince everyone in my village that I am a good person. They are going to accept me with open arms and like me the way I am." she reasoned, "I'm going to use my powers for good."
She stumbled across a young man who was leaning on a boulder.
"He doesn't look like one of D. Sareus' soldiers to me. Perhaps he is just a weary traveller? I should ask him for directions and warn him about this place." She thought. Ehiara turned up her hood and walked toward the young man who was leaning on the boulder. "Maybe he is just sleeping." she thought at first. Soon, she came to a realisation that he was injured.
Lanet's body had slumped away from the position that Kayla had left him in. The fire had gone out. The grass around him was choked with pools of blood. Yet he slept with ease, finally succumbing to his weariness after a long struggle.
Inching closer to the teen, Ehiara pressed her fingers against Lanet's wrist to check for his pulse. "His heart is still beating." She thought. "Thank goodness, thank goodness." Next, she examined the colour of his skin. Judging by the pallor of his hands, the coldness of his fingers and translucent tinge of his skin, Ehiara could tell that Lanet had lost a fair amount of blood. "He is out cold, but he isn't dead yet. There is no time for me to lose!" She thought.
Shyly hovering her pendant around Lanet's chest, Ehiara whispered an incantation under her breath. Lanet recovered slowly.
The healing spell had worked. His wounds had disappeared to some extent. He was still tired, however. Lanet tossed and turned, trying to make up for the loss of sleep. At the same time, his mind was sluggish and his reaction was slow. It took him a while to realise that she was sitting right in front of him.
"I feel thirsty... I need water right now." Lanet croaked.
"Here, please have some of mine." Ehiara offered Lanet some water from her canteen.
Lanet eagerly reached out for it, his wrist stiffening like a scrawny branch. Something ticked in him, causing him to twist the cap impulsively and drink every drop of water from the bottle at once.
"Ah, thank you. I was feeling really thirsty." Lanet said as he sat up. Recalling that Kayla had left him under the tree, Lanet straightened up and asked Ehiara if she had seen a girl with long braided hair anywhere.
