Chapter 1: Ferr
"Lanet!" Kayla yelled impatiently as she stepped out of her room, "Are you ready?"
"Yes! Yes!" Lanet shouted back frantically, "Give me a minute!" Kayla sighed. She was ready to leave home half an hour ago. "Meet you up at the shed!" She said.
By the time Kayla left her house, it was already midday. She wanted to avoid the heat by leaving home earlier, but things didn't go as planned. Luckily, she was able to rest at the nearby shed. Feeling restless, she tapped her feet against the wooden door while the chickens clucked inside their pens. She had fond memories of this old, gabled shed, where she spent her childhood feeding her neighbour's chickens with her friends Lanet, Skyler and Miguel.
Orphaned at a young age, Kayla was thankful to be adopted by a kind old general who had raised her alongside Lanet. The old general taught them what he knew about martial arts, math and language. Even though they were not related by blood, they treated each other like family members.
"Lanet!" Kayla said as she saw him scrambling towards the old shed, "Hurry up!"
The door swung open. Lanet stepped inside the shed. Still struggling to button up his shirt, the grey-eyed teenager hastily rushed up to her. "I'm sorry for being late!" Lanet mumbled.
"HOW CAN YOU OVERSLEEP?" Kayla said, "Skyler is waiting for that herb!"
"You are the one who is excited about this! Not me." Lanet retorted, "I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, but finding that herb is like fishing for a needle out of the ocean."
"Yes. But this will be a new experience for us! From my point of view, this is a win-win situation." Kayla said happily, "Finding that herb will be an icing on the cake."
"Look Kayla, there are two types of people in this world. The first group lives in la-la land while the second lives in reality. I belong to the latter. Unlike someone who was lazing here all night, I was doing the housework yesterday." Lanet said.
Kayla and Lanet continued to exchange light-hearted banter on their way to the meadows.
As usual, they were greeted by the sight of common houses along the street. Kayla and Lanet lived in Ferr, a small village of five hundred people.
They were going to a cave in the meadows, hoping to find a rare herb for their friend, Skyler.
Born in a family of apothecaries, Skyler had learned about herbs and their medicinal properties ever since he was young. The idea that all herbs had unique effects intrigued him. At the age of twenty-three, he researched on them.
A week ago, Skyler acquired an old book from a trader who he had befriended during his visit to Kerpal, a bustling town to the north of Ferr. It contained detailed descriptions of what the legendary herbs looked like and clues as to where they could be found. Skyler flipped through the book that his friend had given him, absorbing its content with great curiosity.
After spending three sleepless nights reading the book, Skyler finally concluded that 'Jansa,' the first legendary herb, could be found in a cave behind Ferr.
In order to find the seven healing herbs, you must follow the instructions as outlined in this book.
A beautiful Melonias lies undiscovered, hidden to the naked eye. One may be able to obtain it from a commoner, working in the rye. The golden Jansa springs forth to life in a cave, resting in reaches that never meet the day. Oddeja Aluci is carefully tucked away, resting for a year or two. It will lie there until a day comes in May, when the ocean shines its deepest blue. A majestic creature bestows upon travellers Quinne Uraera, a copper herb grown in dusk, while the Helonias Root resides in a place that takes on the colour of rust. The moonlight conceals Chiesa, an extraterrestrial herb found in another's hand. The final herb, Imperio Mirca, will be found in the birthplace of man.
