CHAPTER 6: The Lion's Den

A few days ago...

The operation to reactivate a UNSC hydroelectric dam providing power for a nearby nuke stoarge facility and free it of Insurrection control. Events were complicated when Agent Washington's A.I Sigma discovered that the security systems were not UNSC. Arizona was still worried about it.

"North we need to call this in. The Director has to-" he was interrupted by Wash.

"What if he already knew about it Zona?" Arizona backed down momentarily to regain his thought process, and then suggested another idea.

"Alright, it's a given we need to figure out who or what made wrote the security program for this base, so I would suggest an addition to the original plan: after we secure the compound and get the generators running, we bombard the security system with multiple viruses at one time, spam trash codes and distractions while another A.I slips in and finds the origin of this system." North adjusted his position and spoke up.

"Zona we have to keep out eyes on the prize. If the Innies get those nukes, they'll have a larger and deadlier arsenal. Secure the nukes first, then we deal with this security issue." Everyone nodded.

The group of Freelancers stood up and began moving towards the front gate. Each team had opened up a private comm line with their teammate and split off into their two groups. North and Zona went around wide of the gate, avoiding several patrols, and slid down the damn. At the bottom of the basin was a concrete bunker entrance, which the two agents broke down the door of and dove in right before a spotlight hit their position.

Tenn and Wash crouched down in a bush right by the front gate, obscured from view. Tenn and Wash agreed that Tenn would warp up into the sentry towers and stick one EMP grenade on each of the four turrets before Wash snuck up behind the guards and silently took them out. As Tenn warped up, he miscalculated and appeared on top of the first tower. He quickly stuck the turrets with the EMPs and warped in the next tower, the backs of the sentry guns facing him instead of the camera-mounted turrets. He stuck a grenade on each turret and warped back behind Wash, his headaches getting worse.

Wash, in turn, borrowed a few of Tenn's throwing knives. With Sigma helping his aim, he launched one knife at each of the guards, hitting them square between the eyes and kiling them instantly. After clearing the gate, Tenn detonated the EMP grenades and shut down the sentry turrets. The effects carried over to the gate's security systems, disabling the lock. The two agents looked at each other before entering.

"So, Tenn, should we go in loud or keep quiet?" Tenn's response was him holding up a stick of C4 plastic explosive. Wash smiled evily under his helmet and snatched it out of Tenn's hand, walking up to the metal gate. He clamped the stick of explosive in the middle of the door and backed up, readying his Battle Rifle. Tenn held the detonator to the explosive in one hand and a pistol in the other.

Tenn gave a small countdown on his fingers.

He clicked the detonator and a large explosion blew a large and jagged hole in the gate and partially destroyed the sentry turret towers. The two agents rolled through the door, throwing frag grenades at the machine gun emplacements nearest to them. The explosions destroyed the sandbags and the turrets and shredded the infantry manning them. Soldiers rushed from various positions on the dam, carrying MA5Bs and the odd soldier with a Battle Rifle. Red lasers came from the sniper towers as the snipers began to take aim at their targets. Tenn and Wash nodded to each other before running forward, guns blazing, at their enemies.
